  • A great noise canceler with customizable sound and great battery life.
Aside from having ANC and BT, There is 1 other thing that seems worthy of mentioning up front, especially with mor and mor phones not including a headphone jack. These can be used in wired mode via a USB-C cable. No silly dongle, just a wired USB-C cable. YMMV of course, based on your source, file types etc, but this makes the lagoon's a bit mor versitile than many other flagship BT headphones that do come with an audio cable, but can't be used in wired mode unless the headphones are turned on. A true misstep by Bowers & Wilkins and others. So these lagoon headphones can be used either via USB-C cable, 3.5 audio cable, or via Bluetooth. Comfort, i can wear them for long periods of time, longest has been 3 hours or so, but i do wish they were a little less rounded and mor oval shaped. The comfort gives them an on-ear esque feel IMO, and i just feel like the cups start to dig at me after a while. That said, they certainly aren't uncomfortable, and isolate pretty well. There are 2 modes of ANC, and both are not to bad, especially the 2nd level. it doesn't cut out mid-higher frequency sounds as well, but will completely illiminate the rumble of a noisy furnace, train engine, and most of what you'd hear on a plane. I haven't flown for a couple months, so unfortunately haven't had the chance to test them on a flight. when the headphones power up, they'll announce what battery percentage is remaining, and when you press play will announce which codec is being used. e.G. AAC or APTX. Speaking of which, these headphones are compatible with both previously mentioned codecs, as well as SBC. all controls are on the right earcup. on the bottom you have your ANC switch as well as the power switch, on the earcup you swipe up and down to raise and lower volume, swipe left to rewind and right to fast forward, tap the center to pause and play as well as anser and end calls, touch and hold center till you hear the audio prompt for your chosen assistent, and my favorite feature with these headphones, swipe and hold left or right to scrub through sections of a track. need to hear that guitar solo again? just swipe and hold to rewind back to it. Need to skip past an aweful verse on an otherwise great hipHop track? Scroll past, and give it the lack of attention it deserves. The sound quality. that's really hard for me to describe. it's good, but it's trapped in itself. I'll try to explain. With a lot of headphones, Earphones, earbuds etc; things are usually pretty straight forward and easy to form an opinion around. E.g. this pair sounds to forward in the mids or; this other pair has to much bass. The best way i can think of to describe the Beyerdynamic lagoon would be that; refreshingly, they don't have so much bass that the rest of the mix is drowned out. But they also don't have quite enough full bass either. It's not thin, it's just cut off. Incomplete. Specificly speaking about bass, i was able to get mor via the Mosayc app, developped by a company Beyerdynamic purchased called Mimi Hearing Technologies. mor on the app and how it works below. Back to sound quality, same thing with the mids, though to a far lesser extent. The mids were my favorite part of the sound with these headphones. The one thing that bothered me most with these headphones was that i just wanted mor treble than anything. These aren't muddy, just really veiled. When i plugged them in to my Wired setup, which is a Schiit Gungnir multibit DAC plus a jotunheim amp. When the headphones were plugged into this setup, with no eq; i got that treble i wanted and the rest of the mix was honestly exactly what i'd want out of a bluetooth headphone. But this is like comparing a BMW X7 vs a Geo Metro and expecting the same level of refinement and detail. But at minimum, via the mosayc app, i should have been able to get some of this sound i wanted, but to cut the rambling short, all the frequencies, especially those in the bass and treble regions, seem to have these really aggressive limiters if you will, placed on them. They're capable of much mor than what you hear in default mode, or any setting i stumbled on via the app. They always had this veiled/slight clipping sound at times. Not a crackle, and not like typical audible distortion either. The app, has you take a hearing test, and is a bit backwards in its implementation imo. you touch the screen when prompted, then a tone plays. when you no longer hear that tone, you let up on the screen. Seems it should be that you tap the screen once you don't hear the tone anymore. even doing this and trying all different things, i still had the same problem on principal that i described above. I think this could be solved mostly anyway, by having a manual eq in the app so that people can really make the headphones theres. i am returning these headphones. not because they are bad, but because i can't get a sound i like out of them. but they're honestly not to bad, and i think a lot of people will like them. i do in a lot of ways, and if there were a manual eq, i probably would keep them. ... show more

  • Trouble connecting to PC but overall great headphones
Overall, I love these headphones. BUT I've had them for a week now and have been completely unable to connect them to my laptops via bluetooth. I can connect my JLab Go Air wireless earbuds to my laptops with ease, so I know it's not my latop's bluetooth. It seems as if my laptop will not even register the headphones as a device--even though my phone does easily. When connecting to my laptops using the cord, with all ANC off, the sound quality seems a bit more tinny than when connecting with Bluetooth. The headphones are very useful for phone calls since the only thing I can bluetooth connect with is my phone anyways. Trying to use them as a headset for a Zoom call, connected via the aux cord on a laptop, was weird the first time I tried it only one ear piece was transmitting the sound. Haven't tested that set-up a second go-around but I believe changing the input settings on the laptop to connect to the headphones as a "headset" would solve that. That being said, the ANC is quite good. I have neighbors using power tools throughout the day, while I am working from home--the headphone's ANC level II blocks out everything but a chainsaw, and even that is reduced to sounding like it is very far away. That issue is resolved by listening to powerful non-stop music like heavy metal or dubstep. Listening to lo-fi with the ANC LII, I can still hear most power tools, but they are less intrusive and/or annoying. I also live near a freeway on which large freight trucks downshift/gear brake and those sounds are greatly reduced but I can still hear them--again much less distracting and intrusive but not eliminated completely. ALSO I have a fairly small head and delicate neck. I find these headphones to be a bit large and heavy. I wish I could extend the head piece inward further, to take the weight off my neck a bit. If I wear these all day for work, I find a crick in my neck at the end of the day, and the top of my head where it was resting is sore. But that's just my personal experience with the headset--I still wear and use them almost every day because the sound quality is far superior to any other listening devices I have, and it's nice to be fully immersed in the music with the ANC. Definitely bass-ier than my ear buds, which I like. Can hear more sounds in songs I had never heard before--which was both jarring and confusing at times when it was an un-music-like noise (i.e. sirens, deep base, low-frequency synthesizers). Random--the small retail-store-style box the headset and zipper case came in was actually stronger than the hard case. It's not too much larger than a college text book, and much lighter than that, so worth the extra room it takes up. I kept the box around and plan to use it to place the zipper case into when travelling--I wouldn't trust the basic zipper case to protect the headphones through regular travel jostling and such. If you plan to travel with these it's definitely worth the investment in a harder-shell case. ... show more
