  • You can adjust the flow rate on the filter
Size: 2 Gallon Color: Black
I use this as a quarantine/hospital tank, and have an army of ramshorn snails living in it. Light works well for growing low tech (no CO2) plants on 12 hr cycle. If you want it to house a betta, try to find the same thing in a larger volume. If you want to grow out fry, it's a good size for that, but you might have to put a fine screen over the filter intake? This tank is fine for neocaridina shrimp (e.g. cherry shrimp) and/or snails, and/or growing up/out plants for your larger tanks. Or for growing plants only because they're pretty (plus a few snails to control algae). Some tips: -Turn on the light when you want it to come on every day, then set timer (toggle between 6, 9, and 12hr (red), - I believe) and brightness level. If you touch nothing else, it will pop on at that brightness for the duration you set at that same time every 24 hrs. I.e., if you want the light to come on at 8am, you have to wait until 8am to turn it on, then it will be set after that. If you don't set the timer, then it stays on until you turn it off. Use timer and dimmer features to control algae growth (less light intensity/duration = less algae). - With light cycle at 12hrs (medium bright, all colors on) my low tech (non CO2 requiring) plants do very well, and the ramshorn army prevents algae growth, except when they get too big to squeeze between filter and the wall of tank. - There is a slider on the pump (at the bottom of the filter column, on top of pump intake, facing front). I believe if you slide it to the left, you get more flow and to the right you get less... Maybe 5 positions/flow rates to choose from? Also, as biofilms/beneficial bacteria colonize your sponge filter, the flow rate will decrease. This is a fine indication of when you should pull out the sponge and squeeze it a few times in dechlorinated water (maybe some of the tank water you removed for your water change?), then put it back. No additional cleaning of filter is required once tank is cycled, and flow rate will be higher. Pour the dirty water from the sponge onto your favorite house plant. I'm considering cutting sponge in half or quarters (lengthwise) to keep the flow rate higher... Would have preferred larger pores in the sponge. - No charcoal filter is needed. Use activated charcoal filters only to remove meds from water. If you need to remove smells, it's better to address the cause of smell instead (overfeeding? did somebody die (especially a snail!!) is the water stagnant/is there a biofilm on surface/do you need to aerate more? etc). A healthy aquarium doesn't really have a smell. - If you're keeping a betta (a bigger tank is more appropriate for them, but I'm being realistic, some of you will put a betta in this) please note: you can turn the flow rate down to maintain filtration without exhausting your fish in a high current. If your fish is "running" to stay in one place, you will exhaust him and he will become very stressed, more vulnerable to diseases/parasites, and possibly die much younger than he should. Just turn down the flow rate, and he'll be much better off. Better too low than too high (and add an air stone if he spends too much of his time breathing at the surface). I say "him" because most casual hobbyists buy male bettas because they're more colorful/pretty. - You might want to add an air stone, as an appropriate flow rate doesn't oxygenate as well as I'd like. But YMMV. - The heater is set to 85 deg F but in my (cold) apartment, the actual temperature is closer to 77-78 deg F. Not sure what it will be in the summer; can't adjust it. - Light on heater is obnoxiously BRIGHT. Had to turn it to face the wall. - Lid has a 1/2 inch gap above front edge of tank. Keep this in mind if you are housing escape artists or have cats who like to pet the fish. This also means you will have to top off the water level more frequently than if it had no gap. Overall, this is a fine tank at a good price. It arrived well packed. Please do some Googling (or chat up your local fish nerd at the fish store) before you buy this to ensure it's appropriate for the type of aquatic flora/fauna you want to keep. ... show more

  • Great small aquarium
Size: 2 Gallon Color: White
The media could not be loaded. I like the quality of the glass and that the lid closes completely. The tank toys are low quality and the paint started peeling.

  • Ok if you don’t mind cleaning
Size: 2 Gallon Color: White
My big issue with this tank is the filter/water flow part. It can only go in one area and it’s so close to the tank wall there is no way your getting to the algae that will eventually show up. Another issue I’ve run into - trying to adjust the water flow - there is no way to tell if it’s to powerful or not until you get it running and by then the tank is full of water - so the tiny little adjuster on the front of the filter (at the bottom of the tank!) you can’t get to cause no way are you getting your hand into the tank without major water displacement- it’s also extremely hard to get it to move! I’ve tried using long planting tweezers to adjust it and it just won’t move! The good news is it does come with instructions on how to take apart and clean the filter box lol. But the lid just kinda sits on top with no real weight to it at all (which my cat loves as he’s able to just lift it up and get a drink whenever he feels like it). It is a small tank so works ok for bettas but don’t think it would be good for many reg fish. Maybe 2 goldfish at max. I currently have in it - 1 betta, 1 mystery snail, 2 shrimp (none can get to the algae) but it is a cute little tank if you don’t have any shrimp/ snails you can always use an algae killer and that should take care of the one issue. As for the water flow adjuster (maybe I just got a bad one?) ... show more

Ok so this is my first ever fish tank so I'm not 100 percent sure on this. The tank itself is pretty durable and the light is bright and heats up the tank a little. The filter it came with dosent work very well so I added a sponge filter. The heater is ok but I really use it. Would i recommend it. No. Does it get the job done, Meh it's alright. ... show more
