I needed a deicer for one of the four blue 5-gallon heated buckets in my female goats' pasture. The picture shows my two Great Pyrenees girls playing in three of those buckets while I worked on the fourth. The buckets are several years old and the heater in one died a couple of years ago. I got tired of chipping ice in one of them last year and started looking for a new deicer. This one caught my eye because of its higher wattage than most birdbath heaters, its price, and the fact that it was advertised as suitable for buckets. Cord is not grounded and could easily lead to someone or something getting hurt. Overall, product is very cheaply made and not worth the money.

The media could not be loaded. It is around 65 degrees outside. I filled my birdbath with after and tested the temperature. It was 63 degrees., Fahrenheit. Then I plugged in the de-over and waited 30 minutes to test temperature again. The water temperature was 77 degrees. If you watch the video, you will see that in the 30 seconds it took to make the video the water temperature was up to 78 degrees. If this de-over was thermostatically controlled, it should not have turned on. Other than that, it appears in good quality. The power cord is stiff and a bit bent out of the box. I was able to get the de-iced to rest on the bottom of the bath by cutting a small piece out of my plastic bird bath, running the cord down through the hole and strapping it down. I don’t have enough sun to use a solar powered heater. I’ll have to plug this one in when I need it. Not ideal and might not be worth the hassle. I’m not sure I would recommend it. ... show more
