I bought this anticipating making gears. I haven't done that yet, but have been playing with/examining it. I'm impressed, for the price. It rotates and tilts reasonably smoothly. The finish looks nice, no cosmetic machining or grinding mistakes. Holding a 0.750 dowel, runout (T.I.R.) was 0.002". Less would be nice, but it's a 3 jaw chuck that is thread mounted, it's not bad for what it is.. I'll remove the chuck from the back plate and see if I can get any 0.001" shim between the chuck ID and the step on the plate, maybe I can improve it. The smoothness of operation is OK, but I might also take it apart, clean it, and put some thicker oil in it. I have a large SIP rotary table (swiss) whose smoothness puts this to shame, but new, today, it would probably be over $5k. This dividing head really seems to be a deal, though. The perfection of the hole spacing on the plates matters, and I can't (or won't) check that, but any error at the chuck is 1/40th of the plate,, I think it will be good enough for who it's for. I wish I could cut a 127 tooth gear...it won't do that, but most of these things won't.

Gonna start off by saying I'm not a professional machinist. I'm a maintenance tech that has to be able to make parts as needed. Currently I'm working with some UHMW and need to cut a cone shape, the lathe doesn't give a good enough finish but end mills do. Our current rotary table does not have a self centering chuck and strapping parts down to mill gets very sketchy. This chuck grabbed the 7" diameter piece and allowed me to make the cone without tilting the Bridgeport head(one of the guys gets all worked up if you do that). You can definitely tell it's made to sell cheap, but I'm making basic parts, not putting anyone into space. If you need something inexpensive that works good enough I'd suggest this.

This is not a particularly well built piece of equipment. The lever for the quick dividing knob broke while being worked by hand, the head does not turn smoothly, and the action of the jaws is rough. It's an example of "good enough" machining and casting. That said, if you don't want to spend the money on a good dividing head this one will probably do the job. Think of it as a kit that you will need to clean up and get together to work well.

Decided I needed a rotary table for my knee mill. This dividing head/indexer was a great investment. Very handy and accurate. I used it to repair a damaged steel involute gear. the ability to lock in the indexer makes quick work of simple divisions, while the dividing plates really can break it down. Was easy to setup, although I did have to lap the mounting keys to fit in my t-slots. Which was actually a good thing because it fits so perfectly, being hand fitted, that it is easy to remove and reinstall with very little effort.
