I waited until I had slept on this topper for a bit before posting a review. First, it was and still is a little over 4 inches thick. I measured with a ruler when I first got it two months ago and again today. It is VERY comfortable! It is on the soft side, but not too soft for me because my firm mattress is beneath it. I had read in another review that if you're a large person, you may still have some pressure points, and though I am definitely a large person, I have no problems with this. The only issue I have is that it takes some finagling to figure out the most comfortable way to sit on it if you, like I, do a lot of things on your bed. I live in a studio apartment, so my bed is not just my bed -- it's also my desk and my dining table and my sofa. The most important part, though, is that my back pain is gone. I had another topper, a 2-inch gel/foam thing, that rid me of my lower back pain for a while, but after five months I started hurting again. I'm thinking this one might do better. It just feels more durable than the other one did. Well worth the price, imo. Someday I'll spend $1,000 on a bed, but until I at a point to do that, this topper is more than adequate. UPDATED: I got this topper 15 months ago. It’s still comfy, hasn’t flattened and have given me a lot of extra time with my crappy old mattress. Don’t plan on buying another topper or mattress for quite a while yet. UPDATED AGAIN: It’s been almost 2 years at this point, & this topper has give my crappy IKEA mattress a lot of extra life. Still super comfy, still no back pain. VERY swell worth it.

After hours of browsing and reading comments I finally decided to go with this foam topper. Being on the heavy side I was worried I'd just sink through. But I can't be anymore happier! It arrived quickly and it quickly took it's shape after opening it. It did have a slight odor to it but nothing to overpowering. The odor was gone completely after a day or two. I slept on it the same day and I just can't get over how well it's made and durable it is! I slept like a baby, I did not want to wake up. I was so impressed with it, I had to show everyone that came over to lay on my bed. Call me crazy but I just love it so much If anything happened to it or years down the line I needed another one I'd definitely buy it again. Update: 06/25/2016 - It's been over a year and it's still holding up great.

I have never experienced so much shoulder, neck, and joint pain as I have since I got this thing. I've had pain all the way down to my fingers because of the pressure this mattress topper exerts on my joints. I have broad shoulders for a woman my size, so I need a soft mattress topper because my shoulder gets squished and my neck gets strained if I sleep on something that my shoulders can't sink into while I lay on my side. This thing is 1.5" of memory foam and 2.5" of "high density foam". It's pretty much equivalent to that cheap egg crate foam that people used to use on their beds. It's hard as a rock. I might as well have gotten a 1.5" topper and only paid half of what I did for this thing.

UPDATE: 3 years later, still great. No discernable major differences in wear and tear from differing body weight, no soft or hard spots. No funky smells. original review: It took a month for the new smell to go away. Otherwise, I've had it for about 6 months now and it is still a good night's sleep and comfortable. To my body, at 150 lbs, the mattress topper seems pretty firm. It molds just enough to cushion pressure points and is a definite improvement over my previous mattress, or over the basic bare bones mattress that is underneath it. To my partner who is 200 lbs, this topper is a bit more squishy and he sinks in a few inches deeper than I do. He describes it as extremely comfortable and the best thing he's ever slept on. So there you go. If you're less than 150 lbs., you probably won't reap much benefit from this specific mattress topper. If you're around 200 lbs, you will probably enjoy it. Heavier folks I can't speak for. It is extremely WARM, though. In summer, this was somewhat vexing, even with a moisture wicking mattress pad over the top of it. (I would think that a down pad would help with cooling.) In winter, the added reflected heat is quite nice and I'm finding I need to layer fewer blankets to stay warm at night. (UPDATE REGARDING WARMTH: A thin cotton-based mattress pad helps the heat retention issue significantly. And I find it to be nice in the cold months.)

Wonderful value. Not sure you'll really appreciate this but I cut it up into four equal parts and made dog beds out of them. I saved a LOT of money this way ! I made the liners and fleece topped covers. They LOVE it ! Great price !

I ordered this exact same mattress topper back in July of 2017 and still have that one on my son's bed- it's amazing. Perfectly dense and still retains it's firmness after a year of owning it. When I got it last year, it took quite a bit of effort to pull it off the front porch and bring it inside- it was extremely heavy! I just ordered another one (literally went back to past orders and pressed the option for "Buy Again") and what was just delivered is total crap. I purchased a king this time instead of the queen- and the box is light enough that I can carry it with almost no effort. The mailman was carrying it with one arm! They have obviously changed the manufacturer since last time. Opened and out of the box with time to expand, and it is NOTHING like the original product. It's flimsy and gives way more. Not possible for it to provide the same support as the previous product. So disappointed and will be returning.

This is foam, but it is not memory foam. It is not supportive at all, it just sinks so that you wake up in a sunken hole that is hard to get out off. VERY uncomfortable compared to true memory foam. I should have realized it was not memory foam since it was so light-weight. Very disappointed- waste of money.
