  • Hole in one...or a few!
Size: 1 Pack
I used this to punch holes in belts that were too large, as well some leather shoes that I customized. Works great with multiple size settings.

  • Awesome hole puncher
Size: 1 Pack
This is my first time buying a leather hole puncher and after seeing sales associates using similar leather hole punchers in stores I figured it wouldn't be any different if I used it myself, and that I could also save some time and money if I didn't have to go to the store or to a cobbler. Before finally settling with this hole puncher I was looking at a few other punchers but felt that Skilled Crafter's leather hole puncher looked more promising than the others. The only downside is that the puncher was a tad pricey and it would be nice if it was cheaper, however, the puncher itself does feel heavy duty and sturdy. I was really nervous about using a leather puncher for my first time because my goal was to add a hole on the strap of my new Gucci bag. The strap was too long for my petite frame and I needed to add a hole to make the shoulder drop shorter. I practiced on three old belts that I had from a long time ago before trying it on my Gucci strap. The first few punches on my old belts didn't come out as clean and I wondered if it was because the material were faux leather or that the belts were just really dated - they were soft and a bit mushy. After several more punches on the old belts I was eventually able to get clean cuts in different sizes. The punch wheel was hard to turn and I had to use lot of force each time adjusting the spokes. The wheel only goes one direction so you will need to push the wheel in the direction that is going away from you. My fingers were hurting after turning the wheel twice so I had to give them a rest before adjusting the wheel again. I've included two photos (front and back) of my Gucci bag strap. The strap is about 1/8 inches thick with glazed coating on both sides. The left hole is the original manufacture hole and the right hole is the new hole that I made with the puncher. I reached out to Skills Crafter prior to using puncher and they responded to me very promptly. The customer rep recommended that I put a thin card on the bottom for a clean cut so I followed the advice and the hole came out flawless. In the midst of punching the strap, the clasp for some reason got in between the handles so it prevented me from pressing the puncher all the way down. I freaked out for a split second because I thought I had ruined my bag because the leather strap was probably too hard then I quickly realized that the clasp was unexpectedly positioned horizontally (I was probably too nervous to even realize it at that time) so no matter how hard I squeezed the handles together the puncher would not go all the way down. If the puncher made it all the way through you will hear a faint click sound. Luckily the hole turned out fine even after the hysterical and embarrassing fortuity of that 15 seconds of my life. Everything was okay and life goes on. ... show more

  • Punches seemed to become dull very quickly
Size: 1 Pack
I was in the middle of a pretty big book-binding project that required punching a billion holes in paper. I had been using a different, but nearly identical looking, leather hole punching tool (red handle, "PRO-MASTER SMART AND SIMPLE" brand), and it had finally gotten dull after punching 75 holes each in about 400 pages... so I thought I'd try a different brand to see if it was any different. In essence the two tools are pretty much identical, with potentially patent-infringing similarity between the handle design, circular wheel of punches, included accessories, and same size of punches. Unfortunately this leather punch started choking on the paper much sooner than the red one, and it became harder and harder to punch through 5-10 sheets, even after trying to sharpen it by punching through aluminum foil as the instructions suggested. The strike plate on the bottom 'jaw' quickly gets a dent in it, but only a C-shape, which tells me the alignment is off by a matter of millimeters, and the punch is not striking the plate completely flat. This is why it punches holes that don't punch out cleanly, and the bottommost layer of material remains hanging by a quarter-circle of flesh that I then have to rip off by hand or try to rotate the punch to punch through again, but it won't, because there isn't enough material for it to grasp. After a short time my hand was very tired. Because I used both tools on the same project I could compare them accurately and in my experience the red one from "PRO-MASTER SMART & SIMPLE" lasted longer than this blue one from "Skilled Crafter". ... show more

  • No really why didn’t I buy this sooner???
Size: 1 Pack
So I’m stubborn…. Reeeeally stubborn. So stubborn that I decided using an ice pick and a book was just as good as an actual leather punch and hammer. That’s right I’m that idiot and I’m here to tell you, you don’t have to be that idiot. In the box and construction: in my picture you can see the tool, a free little tool that is horrifically sharp, a screw driver, and 3 replacement punch plates. The punch tool feels extremely sturdy and feels well put together. It also has a clip to hold the handles together for storage. (Also you have to offset the punch from the plate to close the handles. May seem obvious to some but thought to mention it.) Use: I have tiny girl hands. For reference, I struggle to open Talenti gelato containers. But this tool? It made punching holes in leather an absolute breeze! I was pretty amazed. You don’t have to push very hard and you can tell when you’ve made it through the leather. I pushed a little too hard and made a dent in the punch plate but it was entirely avoidable but a testament to how easy this thing is to use. Overall thoughts: for $20 this thing is a steal. I made a total of 14 holes and the last one felt as easy as the first. This thing could break in a month and I feel like I’ve gotten $20+ out of this because taking my real leather belt to a professional would’ve cost me so much more. Does it do what as advertised? Hell yeah and way better than what I would’ve imagined. 5 stars ... show more
