This set is a great beginner set for watercolor pencils(it should include watercolor paper for this purpose), sketching, charcoal drawing and sketching, and basic color pencil drawings. It is easy to carry and keep tidy in a small area. It is something quick to grab for a long car ride, or if you want to nature walk with a small backpack and do some landscape sketches. I would not buy this for young children because there is a box cutter included for sharpening the charcoal pencils. You cannot shapen them in a sharpener. A child capable of chopping carrots would be able to handle this tool, or you could sharpen the charcoal and remove the tool. This is a nice gift to bring someone who has a long hospital stay, and who is artistic. There is a place for each pencil and tool so they won't roll away, and it doesn't take up much room. Fabric paint could be used to put a name on the canvas of the outer case. I am not ever reluctant to purchase products from overseas. I have many colored pencil sets that have come direct from China, as well as calligraphy brushes and watercolor. When I read the page(which has changed now), it stated that this was an American owned business. It is. However, the products are still manufactured elsewhere. It is just the packaging - the very nice box in which the product arrives - that states it is an American owned company. I now do not know what this means, if anything. In the photos, you will see that the ink pen, for ink drawing, is covered with character symbols indicative of the Far East and the beautiful character writing found there. This is not an American MADE product, but an American owned company buying its supplies overseas. If you are purchasing items with American owned as a selling point, do not be upset if you find character writing on the product. I was a little confused, believing the purpose of stating a company was American owned was to imply the product was made in America. I was wrong. The words owned and made are clearly different in meaning. This doesn't detract from the product itself, just my feelings about the integrity of the company itself. ... show more

My almost 8yr old son asked for a Sketch pad and pencils for Christmas, he opened this and was so excited over the variety of pencils he will be able to use. It is now 12.27 and for almost 2 straight days he has not put this down. LOVE IT!
