  • Definitely NOT for eyeglass wearers.
Three things about this helmet. 1. It is not suited for eyeglass wearers. The thin foam in the sides of the temple areas is backed by hard plastic plates to accommodate the plastic pin locking mechanisms. therefore very little give in this area and not much to allow compression for eyeglass/sunglass stems to slide in. 2. The MIPs system means the liner is constantly sliding around inside just a little. In the several times I sat this helmet on my head, never once did the liner sit level. I could look in the mirror and have the helmet level and see the liner across my forehead tilting to the left or the right. It always looked odd. The MIPS seems like a marketing gimmick more than anything. 3. The helmet comes in three shell sizes. I was in the middle size and when comparing it to my Arai and my Oneal helmets, this thing is nearly an inch wider. It makes the wearer look more like a bobble head. Did I say it is BIG? 4. The cheek and rear vents are not close-able, they will always remain open. I am confident you would find it cold when riding on a chilly morning. ... show more

  • Incredible value and quality!
Color: Marauder Matte/Gloss Blackout Size: Large
I've raced motorcycles my entire life. Motocross, desert and on road closed course. I always wanted a dual sport bike but never got one until now. So when I started looking for helmets I was a bit concerned because my race helmets, Arai, Shoei and others were in the neighborhood of 500+ range. I've crashed plenty at the track so I know the value of a good lid. When I saw this Bell for 219.00 along with Amazon's great return policy I thought I'd make the plunge. And I'm so glad I did! Typical Bell quality (owned an original Bell Star back in the day) and it came with TWO shields, one dark and one clear! WOW. The fit for me is perfect, a large. I highly recommend this helmet to my friends and teammates. ... show more

  • My comments on the Bell MX-9 Adv MIPS - Black/Red/White Berm
Color: Gloss Black/Red/White Berm Size: Large
I would like to give my observations on the Bell MX-9 Adventure MIPS. As I continue using the helmet, i will add to this review. On opening the box... Well packaged, both Amazon and Bell did a very good job. No shipping damage found. Inside the Bell box, there came a helmet bag, some literature on MIPS, information on the antibacterial liner, the Bell Helmet Instruction manual, and a zip lock bag with two plastic disks (I'm assuming these disks are to be used to cover and protect the side visor mounting holes when visor is not in use. There’s nothing in the owners manual as to their use). It is a sharp looking helmet. Comes with a clear shield and a red and black visor. Fit... Fits as expected. The cheek pads on my old HJC CL-17 (sports bike helmet) nearly reached the corners of my mouth. The Bell cheek pads do not. No deal breaker, the Bell still fits very nice, no movement, no unusual discomfort. My head is oval so there is some pressure on my forehead but after an hour ride, no blistering headache. As with any new equipment, give yourself some break-in time before heading out on a long trip. Visibility… I really like the extended side to side visibility when comparing it to my HJC. That head check right, or left on a lane change is really nice, can see way back there now. The shield is just a little odd. It’s as if the light waves passing through the shield are bent just a little, it’s not... crystal clear. Maybe it can best be described as if looking through old 1900’s glass window panes, but very subtle. The other thing, the lower edge of the shield has a 90 degree bevel. I uploaded and image. Facing forward, head straight, if you look down, the 90 degree bevel distorts everything in view. Like your gage cluster, or items mounted to your hand bars like GPS, phone, etc. I’m nearly 6ft, and when seated, I can see my gages ok, but handle bar controls are distorted. Standing could be a real issue. This isn’t a deal breaker for me, I can tilt my head down while street riding. And when off road adventure riding, I plan to remove the shield and wear goggles. Noise… With this helmet, I plan to have the visor on all the time. So, my noise testing is from that perspective. Obviously, without the visor, at highway speeds, the overall noise level will be lower. I’m about 5” 11”, my Tenere seat height is about 34”, and with the bikes adjustable stock windshield set to its lowest height, the noise is extremely high. Ear protection would be strongly recommended. Stock windshield height raised, the noise level isn’t much different then my old HJC. Adding a Scala Gx9… No problems Missing part… Oddly enough, and somewhat disappointing. When I removed the helmet visor and shield to clean it. I noticed one of the three mounting screws was missing a small rubber washer. This little washer goes on the mounting screw first, then attached to the helmet. Something to help prevent scratching, maybe help to prevent over tightening. Not a big deal, I’m sure I can find one at Home Depot. But still…. 10/2018 update - It is loud at speed. Hearing protection should be a serious consideration on long trips at speed. Taking of the visor will reduce the noise, just be sure not to loose the small parts. That bevel on the bottom edge of the visor does interfere with visibility when looking down at the gauges. For me and my height, its a slight tip of the head to get clear vison. The screw on the top of the helmet holding down the visor came loose. Holly cow, talk about noise. Thought my whole head was coming off. Be sure to keep that tight. The screw length is pretty long, I was able to get off the road and tighten it before it fell out. I'm old biker returning to the sport after 30 years away. So, I'm a noob. I do think it's pretty universal with anything that's designed to work in two different areas, it will work very good one area, and just OKAY in the other. This Bell seems MX-9 seems to lean more towards off road. It's a solid fitting helmet, and good visibility. How can you go wrong with MIPS. For long trips, take off the visor, wear some hearing protection. Install your Bluetooth and listen to your favorite music. ... show more

  • Size chart is accurate
Size chart was accurate. I have another Bell helmet, the K1 sport, for car/go-kart racing which is a medium. I assumed all Bell helmets would fit the same and I was wrong. I measured and checked the size chart, ordered a large and it fit perfectly. Great helmet with the option to remove the visor if you end up riding more on the road. I noticed that around 55mph, the visor would pull my head around a bit if I wasn’t looking straight ahead. Love the hi-viz orange color too, a great alternative to the hi-viz yellow colored variant. ... show more

  • A good $200 helmet
This helmet is a good $200 helmet. It is comfortable and has removable liners, so it is easy to clean up. It is a bit on the heavy side compared to more expensive helmets(about 1/2 lb lighter) but not too bad. I weighed it at 4.1 lbs for an X-Large. It is not the 3.3 lbs as advertised. They may have given the weight of an X-Small version. They use screws to mount the face shield and visor which means there is going to be parts to keep track of if you want to switch things around out on a ride. The top vents are always open so it may effect cold weather riding. The screws, open vents and a little bit of weight are what makes this helmet available for $200. Overall it is a great helmet for the money. ... show more

  • beautiful helmet, well made nice features
Color: Marauder Matte/Gloss Blackout Size: Large
First, this helmet included the clear shield and the dark shield as well. That's a $50 dollar value. It weighs 3lbs 12.5 oz. Not light nor heavy. My head measures exactly 23 and 1/2 inches at it's widest ( just above my eyebrows). The fit is very good, a little more than snug but it's new. The cheek pads are too thick and press too hard on my face, but this might change once broken in. There is no way to adjust that nor get access to to the foam within the fabric. But it's not uncomfortable. I'm sure it will loosen up a bit over time. It's vented across the top of the inside and it works to keep your head cooler. There is a vent in the cross bar and it can be closed with a sliding tab on the front. At speed you can turn your head and the wind does not grab the helmet very much. Also the visor does not catch the wind unless you tilt the helmet up some. Overall it's very nice and I would buy this again. ... show more
