Description

BUILT TO PERFORM. Built with the same core design principles as the pro-level Z20, the Stratus combines lightweight aero efficiency with cutting-edge comfort technologies. The shape was refined for all-around road performance - ventilated for long climbs but still fast for the flats - and the integrated Float Fit system offers comfort and security with a streamlined fit and an oversized dial that's easy to adjust with one hand. The Overbrow Ventilation system pulls cool air in through the front and pushes it through an air- channel matrix to reduce overheating. And thanks to the adjustable No-Twist Tri-Glides, the straps stay flat and properly positioned no matter how hard you're hammering. This model also includes MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System) for added protection in certain types of impacts.

I've been wearing Bell helmets for a long time because they fit my oval shaped head well. This model is a step up from my old helmet, which is a Bell Drifter, with better ventilation and a slightly comfier fit. I got it in the "ghost" version, which is very bright. It gives me more confidence riding in suburban traffic. The helmet is probably not the absolute lightest option out there, but it's light enough that I barely notice it when I'm riding. The straps were easy to adjust, and the dial in the back lets me tighten the helmet exactly like I want it. I tried a couple of Smith helmets before I chose this helmet, but they were heavier and did not look as nice on my head. Since the Stratus has been rated highly for safety and has a good implementation of MIPS, I feel confident I made a good choice. ... show more

    • The best MIPS helmet for roadies

This is the best engineered helmet I have owned. First there is the MIPS technology which garnered high marks in both Consumer Reports and Virginia Tech ratings. The fit is excellent, especially the chin strap adjustments for around-the-ear comfort. Ventilation is very good too. But the best feature is subtle and missed in reviews. There are two notches on the front rim of the helmet where two vents terminate. They're pretty small but they give you the ability to look "through" the helmet rim when your head is tilted down so you don't have to tilt your head up. You can see the road ahead merely by looking up with your eyes. Pretty slick. I came to really appreciate this when I had to replace my Bell Stratus and went to another brand which offered a new non-MIPS protection system. It didn't have the peep hole notches and my neck ached after the first ride from tilting my head back. And on top of that, it wasn't as comfortable or well ventilated as the Bell. I immediately ditched it and got another Bell Stratus. The Bell Stratus costs more than the others but IMHO it is a superior product for roadies and well worth the money. ... show more

I purchased this unit in 2021, and recently evaluated if it should be replaced. Just realized that it was manufactured in Nov 2023, 2 years prior to purchase. I do a lot of biking (10 hrs+/week) usually in full sun. It's not holding up very well, you can see from pictures that the mesh inside the helmet is coming off. Also seeing a lot of cracking or crazing in the grey portions of the paint. The helmet fits well, reasonably light for the price, and liked that it was yellow and bright, and is MIPS. Just wish it would have held up better. ... show more

Excellent helmet, extremely quick shipping. The internal adjustment head band can be tightened down exactly to the size of my head with a perfectly snug fit. This makes the chin strap able to be kept loose, eliminating all discomfort. Plenty of air vents, very lightweight. The short answer is that this helmet is comfortable, well-ventilated, and was highly rated by a study from Virginia Tech. Buy it. I bought this helmet because my existing one was a few years old and a Virginia Tech study was recently released that scientifically evaluated several different bicycle helmets, and this one made it into the top tier of helmets providing the best protection. I'm not certain that I believe you need to replace your helmet after 3-5 years as is recommended by the manufacturers, but it won't hurt anything but your wallet. Similarly, some believe that the MIPS system is unnecessary or even counter-productive. The Virginia Tech study suggests otherwise and most opinions seem to be that it is potentially beneficial. Of course no lab measurements can fully test for all the possible crash dynamics. My wife's measurement of my noggin and Bell's fitment guide indicated that I needed a large, which surprised me since I am not a big guy. Nor do I have a disproportionately large head. So I ordered a large and I must say that it does fit great. It easily adjusts with the wheel on the back of the head strap and the chin strap adjusts easily too. It is a noticeably better and more comfortable fit than my previous Bell which was just whatever seemed good at Target. Ventilation seems more than adequate, indeed at times with the sun at my back, I can see the vents in my shadow on the pavement. I ordered the purple one because when I ordered it that color was somehow $38 cheaper than all other colors. Go figure. If not this one, at least wear some helmet and come home safely from every ride! ... show more

Bell Stratus fit very well for my 58cm noggin. I like how the straps on both sides do not touch my ears and the chin strap has enough adjustment not to choke me when looking down at my handlebars. I choose this helmet because of the MIPS feature, attractive style and the colors.

Very pleased with this model. Saw a Virginia Tech article that safety tested many bike helmets and this was one of the top 4 that was rated as "best available" at this time from a safety standpoint. So, normally wear the M-L or medium. Ordered a medium and it fits perfectly. Lots of vents and rides very cool. Extremely comfortable helmet, and the night visibility in the white w/ silver reflective colorway is awesome. Speaking of color, the white is a matte white that is the best I've seen to date. Looks quality, feels great. The helmet is quite sleek when on, not bulbous. Just really pleased. Btw, the study found no correlation between price and safety performance. Many higher priced helmets performed worse. Just sayin... Lastly, the buckle is nice and small and doesn't stick way out. Would recommend without reservation. ... show more
