The 7 ½ Gallon Galvanized Steel Ash Pail by Behrens Manufacturing is built to last and is 100% Recyclable. Multi-use, ideal for holding hot ashes, but can also be used as dry storage for kindling, logs and pellets. Designed with the highest quality materials, the metal coal hod ash can is durable and hard wearing. This generous bucket holds plenty of ash from past fires, and an available and coordinating shovel makes cleanup simple. The galvanized steel coal hod features a corrugated, offset bottom, to keep the can off the ground, durable wire handle for easy portability. This ash and dry storage container is weather, chemical and rodent resistant. The fireplace ash can is features functional, all durable steel construction that is a great addition to any fireplace hearth stove with its classic finish. Like I said, it fits exactly 50lbs of forge coal. Weirdly awesome that it was the perfect size to fit in my tool-holder-rack thing. Why 4 stars? It is a little warped - lid is shaped a little like a Pringle, and the rim is a bit eccentric. The lid-handle-rivets do not inspire confidence, and.... MANUFACTURES NEED TO STOP PUTTING SUPER STICKY LABELS ON THINGS! It is ridiculous to need to use acetone and WD40 to get an obnoxious label off of an otherwise pretty good product. Tell your sticker people to use the easier glue man, it isn't a freaking bumper-sticker! Other than that, I think it's rather nice! I'd take one home with me :) ... show more

We bought two Behrens metal cans (7.5gal & 4gal) recently. We liked the fact the company claimed their product have been built in the USA for 100 years. The 7.5gal can came with two stickers clearly indicating it was built in Mexico and the thickness of the metal was equivalent to a can that you'd buy olive oil in etc. The label on the front was insanely hard to remove without damaging the can! The 4gal can however, was at least twice as thick and had a label indicating it was made in the USA. The label was easy to remove and the can is built tough! ... show more

This bucket is extremely underwhelming. Ours arrived dented around the bottom. If it couldn’t hold up to storage and shipping, I’m not sure how it is supposed to hold up to outdoor use or storing wood/charcoal. Then there is the sticker. I do not know why companies do this, but it is held on by some sort of powerful glue cursed by a witch to only come off in tiny slivers. I know we have the sticky tech to allow stickers to be removable without extreme measures. I believe in us. As others have noted, this bucket is not made in the USA and all the marketing materials make you believe that it is manufactured here. Thumbs down. All in all, you’re paying a premium for a not-so-premium bucket. The value for money is low and it doesn’t seem as sturdy as they want to claim. ... show more

    • More than an ash can - a dog poo can!

OK - it is a trash can but we were looking for a dog poo can. We searched Amazon and the local stores but nothing seemed to be what we needed. We live in a clay soil area so the in ground systems won't work. This can is just the right size for a medium plus dog. The black blends into our bushes better than silver as we are storing it outside near the corner of the house. The bail lid holder is effective so far. I would recommend an optional cable connector from the bail to the lid but not a deal breaker. I guess I remember having to chase many trash lids down the street as a kid. I put a kitchen trash can inside and a second one for the poo. Trash day - I just take out the one bag and dump into the can. The older bag becomes the new poo bag and a put in a new liner. ... show more

The ash bucket I had has rotted out - wood ashes are acidic and attack metal. This one is larger and seems to be made of heavier material, should last much longer.
