Bought a new firm serta perfect sleeper mattress from macys as a stomach and side sleeper. This was the best to support the lower back. However I still wanted softness on the surface and I did not want to buy a built-in pillow top firm mattress or any kind of built-in pillow top mattress. Why? Because built in pillow tops SAG and dip with body impressions. So I researched and decided to get a good cushiony mattress pad topper. This one did the trick. I put it in the machine to wash first thing out of the package and let it air dry. It had no offgassing smell. It was very comfortable and added a nice touch of softness to the sleeping surface while still keeping my lower back supported by the firm mattress. I sleep well now. I wish i could buy a softer, more plush mattress overall but I'd have to change my sleep position from stomach sleeper, which I cant seem to do. Plush mattresses destroy the lower back for a stomach sleeper because your hips sink down creating a unhealthy pinch in the back all night. Back to this pad: The fit hangs slightly off the corners but the top sheet tucks it back in. I guess you cant make this kind of thing exactly the right size for every mattress that exists out there. ... show more

Just what we needed. With the combo it's not so thick that it that you're wedged in but thick enough that it has the extra comfort I wanted. I like a little on the former side, my hubs could sleep in foam and this is good for both of us.
