Great set to get an example of each style. I mostly use the gouges and bowl knife. spoons are so easy with the curved knife. Came sharp enough to start with, didn't sharpen until after a bit of use.

I really love Beavercraft and had a huge smile on my face when these chisels came with a band-aid included! I think they are a great company and have wonderful experiences with their customer service. This is an ideal set for someone just getting started in carving. I want to clarify that these aren't intended for use on hardwoods. Beavercraft's site states this very clearly, but that's not clear here on Amazon. If you're looking to carve textures in hardwood (as I was) you'll need a harder steel, and yes, more expensive chisel. ... show more

These are decent tools, very sharp, handle fits hand well, at least my hand. Got a chuckle out of them including a band-aid along with caution about being sharp! Old carver wisdom goes like “it’s always easier to cut yourself with a dull tool”.

I was hoping they would be sharper out of the box. I had to sharpen them myself. But, you get what you get for the price. They hold an edge after sharpening. The bandaids included with the tools was a humorous touch.

    • These are extremely sharp knives
These knives are extremely sharp! Cut through leather like butter. I have started to carve a walking stick, the design is a snake wrapped around the stick. This requires a lot of carving out the spaces between the snake body. These knives feel really good in your hand and you can control the blade with ease. The walking stick is made of ponderosa pine from a forest fire which is easy to carve with these knives. The blades have not dulled at all. The case is nice leather which protects the knives and you from the knives. ... show more
