Okay, first off, I almost never write reviews. Second, I have been an avid self-tanner user for the last 12+ years (both at home and professional spray tans) and have tried countless brands over the years. I heard about Beauty By Earth years ago and thought it was an overhyped affiliate-dominated too-good-to-be-true product, so I didn't try it. Over the years, it kept popping up as I searched for new products to try. In the last three years, I have switched almost all of my beauty products to clean products and regularly use the EWG's site to determine a product's efficacy. I knew that this product has almost no potentially hazardous ingredients and is rated a stellar 1 by EWG. Yet I couldn't believe that a product could be both CLEAN and EFFECTIVE. I am thrilled to say I've been proven wrong. I tried the first application on my legs only as my expectations could not have been lower. I was pleasantly surprised by the results, so the following day, I reapplied to my legs (for darker color) and to the rest of my body. I am beyond impressed with the results. I will say this lotion is thick—the thickest I have used. This makes it a bit challenging to apply. I use a mitt, and it is a bit of a workout to rub it all in. However, it has a pleasant coconut scent and dries fairly quickly, leaving the skin soft and hydrated. There was no color transfer and a very even application the next day. I'm shook. It should be noted that I am NOT an affiliate, but I thought it might help other skeptics to hear my feedback. For reference, I avoid the sun, so my skin is quite light with yellow undertones, but I do tan if I spend time in the sun despite my Northern European heritage. I used the medium-dark color and it looks natural on me and isn't too dark. If you want a super dark tan, apply another coat the next day (the areas I doubled up on look so good and have zero blotchiness). Happy tanning!! ... show more

I use this on my face and my body, and I love that it has clean ingredients that I can feel good about slathering over my entire body. I first purchased this product back in 2017 and really liked it. I decided to get it again recently because my legs haven’t had a lot of sun (I am already tan, but pale IYKYK). Happy to say the quality hasn’t changed! It smells nice, isn’t super thick, and washes off my hands easily after application. My tan looks great after the first 8 hrs, but I did reapply just to get it a little darker. If you are a sensitive girlie I would recommend waiting a whole day after shaving before applying the tanning lotion. ... show more

I like the tan color you get from using this product. Very natural looking. The color lasts an extremely long time- about a week, however it does start to fade before then. I have freckles and sun spots all over my body and the foam tanner from other brands make those oddly dark- this product does not do that, which is a huge win. Doesn’t have a strong fake tan smell until about 8 ish hours after application, when color development is at its peak. One of the better self tanner ingredients on the market (I have used this since 2019 after researching safe cosmetics). There are two cons in my opinion, the initial smell of this lotion and the consistency/lotion texture. Doesn’t smell good when applying. Not sure what it smells like but it’s kind of nasty. Almost reminds me of a hair dye/toner. However the smell seems to dissipate/doesn’t linger. Secondly, it’s more watery during initial application and when you spread it on the skin it turns this cake-y white. The coverage area is small- a little doesn’t go a long way, constantly adding more to get all the skin “wet”, but you have to rub it in for a long time because it stays white on the skin. Similar to sun tan lotion. I honestly thought I had a bad batch so I reordered it but the second bottle had the same smell and consistency- so it’s just the way it is. Even with those two cons, I still love it and will continue to use because the pros outweigh the cons and I honestly haven’t found anything quite superior. While the product is not 100% perfect it’s still dang good in my opinion. Also use the drops by this brand for my face and I LOVE those, the smell is amazing. This is the only self-tanner I’ve ever used other than Jurgens and I think the tan I ended up with was top notch and…to my very great surprise…NOT ORANGE! Or streaky! I did end up with some dark spots on my fingers and elbows but I think that was an application failure on my part so I’m trying again soon. I got complimented on my tan the day after I used this. It has a light coconut scent and doesn’t feel oily when it’s on. I do not have sensitive skin so I can’t speak to the sensitivity but as a person allergic to a lot of perfumes, this lotion didn’t give me any problems. ... show more

This lotion goes on smooth and tans you within hours. No Orange colors and tan looks natural. No bad smells and it’s a white lotion so there’s no “bronzing” color to it and doesn’t rub off on your clothes or sheets so you can apply at night, go to sleep and wake up tanned! Disappointed...this did not get me very tan at all, and I've tried many self tanners in my life with no issues, so I know it wasn't my application. I got the "medium dark" as well and even applied a second coat. Wish I didn't waste 35 bucks on this. Only reason for the 3 stars is because of the natural ingredients (I loved how my previous self tanner worked before, but have been trying to cut toxic ingredients out, hence my reason for purchasing this) *edit: after a few tries, it seems I am able to get it to the darkness I like if I apply the two coats thick, but, it's harder to rub it all in. Also, it is a tad orange, and I wish it had some color to it so that you could see where you applied because I sometimes find spots the following day that I missed. However, I will say it definitely doesn't dry my skin out like other self tanners, it's very lotion-like! ... show more
