I’d had my eye on a similar product from another brand for a while, but I was very excited to find out that Bearbutt was bringing a snake skin to the market as the Bearbutt brand is synonymous with top quality hammocking gear! As excited as I was, I couldn’t ignore a nagging voice in my head suggesting, “Surely this product isn’t as durable as you’re hoping it’ll be. I mean, it’s probably fine to use at a campsite for a few days, but I bet the coating will start to crack after sitting in the sun too long.” That nagging voice held me back from a great blessing. For weeks I would stare at the snake skin on the Bearbutt Facebook page or on their website, my finger hovering over the “add to cart” button while I fought that nagging voice. One day, I saw an opportunity. Bearbutt was doing a market research study and in return for my participation, I would receive a gift card. As soon as that gift card hit my inbox, I was scrambling to the virtual checkout line! My package came swiftly and met me almost as a surprise on my doorstep. At first glance, the product was everything I dreamed it would be — super light, great fit and function, seemingly durable — but the nagging voice was creeping in again. Determined to hush the nagging voice, I rushed to the back yard to install my new Bearbutt snake skin. I was impressed by how quickly the product installed. The skin moved smoothly over the fabric of the hammock with no binding. I did find that the snake skin would balloon and fill with air as I pushed it back into itself, but loosening the drawstring at one end allowed the air to escape and alleviated the issue. Satisfied with my setup, I went back inside and waited. I checked the snake skin daily at first — looking for any sign of wear. A week passed. The nagging voice grew faint. A month, two months, three flew by fast. In sun, rain, wind, even ice the Bearbutt hammock stood strong — unfazed by the wrath of Mother Nature. The nagging voice? It was gone! And my worries and anxiety about having to put my hammock away quickly before an impending storm rolls through? Those were also gone.
