  • Fins will bend!
Style: Pure Rock Slim 2
I have had this cooler for a few weeks now. let me give you a run down on the PC specs before I explain... CPU: Ryzen 3600 Motherboard: Asrock B450m PRO 4 mATX Case: SAMA IM01 PSU: Full ATX 600 watt bronze EVGA semi-modular GPU: Double slot RX 580 8gb saphire nitro + Storage: PCIE 4.0 NVME 2280 1gb inland with aftermarket heat sink, no SATA HDD/SSD's. My PC is pretty no-frills with a very minimal foot print, even after factoring in the full-sized PSU mounted in the front and the mATX Mother Board instead of a mini-ITX. Regardless, there is more than adequate airflow... When the cooler arrived, I took off the wraith spire that I was using from a 1st gen Ryzen 1600 (the actual decent spire with the copper chamber), and I was excited to try this out because I heard great things about it after personal research, but when I dropped it into my system, I saw ambient temps sitting at 50c.... I understand that Ryzen CPU's run pretty warm but this was cause for concern as there was nothing within the PC to cause the cooler to run this hot and air flow simply wasn't an issue. I replaced the thermal paste with better 3rd party paste, remounted the cooler and temps were still pretty bad. I was idling at 50 - 52c and shooting up to 85c on max load during 15 minute bench mark tests in CPU-Z and Cinebench R23.... Frustrated, I removed the CPU cooler and completely cleaned the heat sink, cleaned the CPU good and ensured that no thermal grease was seeping onto motherboard components. I remounted for a 3rd time and the results ended up being the same as the first two times. At this point, I started to experiment by turning the fan around to where the 'BeQuiet' logo was facing in the opposite direction from what's shown in the pictures and basically reversed the fan position and the helped bring the temps down to 45 (still not very remarkable considering I run everything at stock with the exception of XMP profiles). I eventually went into Ryzen Master and undervolted my CPU to 1.18 volts and ran multiple stress tests until eventually stabilizing at 3.8ghz at 1.175 volts, went into the BIOS and set the fan speed to performance over 'default' and managed to bring my temps down to 36.7c at idle and around 70c sustained max. The entire experience has been time consuming and frustrating, and outside of the perks of having a quiet fan, I am questioning wither or not this purchase was worth it, considering I had to go through as much as I did just to get my temps down to acceptable levels, especially when I didn't have to do any of this to get decent performance out of my old wraith spire copper cooler. Even more annoying is how easy the cooler fins bend when you attempt to mount the fan. You can be as careful as you want and they will still bend, I promise you that much, so enjoy bending them back.... PROS: - compact sized cooler - very quiet fan, even when running at full speed; very impressive - perfect size for smaller machines, won't block your ram and blow hot air all over your mother board/components CONS: - fans bend easily - installing on AM4 sucks, they use the mounting bracket instead of screw in, making easier for you to miss-spread your thermal grease - fan mounting brackets will hate your coolers fins, making you sure to bend your heat sink fins when attaching the brackets ... show more

  • Almost lost 2 stars to the HORRIBLE fan clips to an otherwise fantastic product!
Style: Pure Rock 2 Black
Mounts very well to CPU and MotherBoard and quality and engineering of heat sync and fans themselves is fantastic! BUT. Holy moly! Getting the cheap included fan clips on is a nightmare and a half! It’s like ordering a steak that is perfectly cooked, just right shade of red inside, and delicious and you are serve it with a fork with poo 💩 on it to eat it and there are no other forks! To utilize the fan clips, they do not stay on the fan side pre-mounting, you need both hands or they won’t stay where they are supposed to clip in the fan as well without you putting pressure on them so you need a good amount of space to work with them so you can forget trying to put the fan clips on while the heat sink is already installed installed inside the case as many of us need to reposition and replace things later on a build. I had to remove the video card and top case fan to finally finagle the fan clips (while keeping them clipped to the fan) onto the heat sync. It’s almost ironic they fit loosely once they are on but I believe that is by design as it does not seem to hamper their operation, however it is quite a feat and tough operation to squeeze them on and then are basically just a bend wire. They also bend the edges of the fins of the heat sync in more than is like and compared to competitors I’ve used. It’s all about the FAN ClIPS! Everything else is so good!! ... show more

  • Cooling is great
Style: Pure Rock 2 Black
Cooler arrived well packaged and not damage which was nice. The installation of the cooler was pretty easy except for the mounting of the fan to the cooler. You have to apply a good bit of force to make sure the fan is secured to the cooler. I have a Ryzen 5 2600 and this cooler instantly decreased my temps about 10 degrees Celsius and is very quiet. ... show more

  • Solid option.
Style: Pure Rock 2
I bought this to replace an Arctic Freezer 34 eSports cooler I thought I was having trouble with. It turned out to be a different issue all together, so I put that cooler in another system (same CPU, GPU, cases and fans) and run them side by side. Most of this review will be a comparison of these two coolers. What I find most surprising is that the Arctic is quieter. The Pure Rock isn't obtrusive or by any means loud, but you can't hear the Arctic over the GPU fans when the systems are under load. You can hear the Pure Rock. The Pure Rock's mount covers the entire heat spreader (5600X), the Arctic's does not.. but there is no real difference in CPU temperatures under load. Both coolers keep the CPU at about 31 C idling and running a stress test I see maybe 64 C. The Pure Rock does seem to ramp up more slowly, but the difference is pretty minor. I prefer the mounting system on the Arctic, although both are quite solid. The fan clips are more secure on the Arctic. Overall the Pure Rock 2 is a very good cooler for the money, and the two I'm discussing here are for all intents and purposes interchangeable. The Pure Rock's cooler assembly seems to be of slightly higher quality, with it's added heat block and the caps on the heat pipes. All of the mounting components, both the motherboard mount and the fan retention clips are easier to use on the Arctic, and the fan retention clips are far and away more secure on the Arctic as well. At the same price point I'd choose the Arctic. ... show more

  • Server complete
Style: Pure Rock 2 Black
Had a low profile heatsink but new job required hire processing usage, thus requiring better heatsink. Simple to install and 100% works. Pre-applied thermal paste seems to be average (not great and not horrible) Would recommend!
