The 5.51 Cubic Ft. Biometric Keypad Rifle Safe by Barska is a great way to keep rifles and other firearms securely stored and readily accessible. It features an advanced Biometric Fingerprint Identification System that allows a registered user to quickly access the safe’s interior with the simple scan of their fingerprint. Additionally, the 5.51 Cubic Ft. Biometric Keypad Rifle Safe by Barska can either be accessed with a user created PIN code or with the included back-up keys. This safe is equipped with three 1” solid steel lock bolts providing added protection from burglary attack. The interior upholstery is designed to protect the finish of your firearms from scratches and scuffs, and the safe is also predrilled for floor or wall anchoring using the included mounting hardware. The safe arrived undamaged and was the correct model (apparently other reviewers reported getting the wrong model). For a basic rifle safe it is very well built though I agree with others who have said it is a little top heavy. The biometrics module works well - the instructions encourage you to register the same fingers multiple times to better insure recognition if not placed on the reader exactly the same way each time. I have tested the reader and have had 100% reliability so far. The added feature of a numeric keypad is great though I would imagine it would be hard to use in an emergency. Since batteries are required for operation it is nice that it warns you when batteries are low as well as allowing for a 9v battery to be placed in a strategic location on the outside to power the unit in the event of a dead battery. The ability to use a key is a nice feature and works very well. The door bolts are very sturdy and plentiful - 3 on the side and one each on top and bottom. Though not impenetrable, it would take a determined thief with time and tools at their disposal. It is heavy enough (when loaded) to discourage anyone from a quick “grab and go”. The wall and floor anchors can add additional deterrent if used. It is a good value for the price. It is not unusual for cheaper biometrics to start failing after 4-5 years so we’ll see about the longevity. Replacing batteries early and often is a good safeguard if you want it to open reliably in an emergency. My only criticism is that I think simplex locks are superior to biometric locks. They don’t require batteries and are 100% reliable regardless of its age. I wish I could get the same safe with Simplex lock instead. If there were a comparable safe with a simplex lock, I would have bought it instead. I am considering retrofitting a simplex lock in place of the biometrics. I have taken apart the interior door panel, and it looks as if this may be possible. You get what you pay for with safes but this one is a great value for the price. ... show more

Loved the amount of space. I don’t have many guns yet but I still have plenty of room for a lot more rifles. The only thing I didn’t like was the pistol rack doesn’t allow for light attachments but if moved a bit lower by like 3-4 inches it is definitely possible. I bought magnetic motion detection C charger powered lights for the interior and is perfect for my needs. Great quality and has instructions on how use the key pad and biometrics. Very secure. Has two keys, fingerprint reader, and pin pad.its in my compact closet and fits great. ... show more

TLDR Version: Great safe if you plan to use it for longer term storage in a small space with no need to quickly retrieve contents. Is exactly as advertised, so understand your use case(s). This safe is great in that it met my use cases for 1. Small space, 2. Two long guns, 3. Fingerprint reader, and 4. Simple/clean aesthetics. Pros: - The size of the safe is perfect for a small space and if you have one or two long guns you want "quick" access to. - The finger print reader works. It will read your programmed prints and unlock easily with patience. - There is a minimal amount stuff on the front of this safe, which keeps the look clean and I would not be embarrassed to have it placed outside of the closet. Potential cons/things to consider: - Any more than two long guns makes retrieval more difficult as the space is cramped. Removing a gun without bumping the sides, shelf, or other guns is a bit like playing the game Operation, so I prefer to store only one shotgun in this safe. That's on me for buying a small safe, though. Not an issue with the safe itself. - Cramped space means no room for having magazines inserted, optics connected, or any other attachments on the stored long guns. I have to store my shotgun sideways in order to close the door, due to a small red dot sight attached. - The glue on the muzzle retention foam does not stand up to heat or frequent removal/placement of guns and will fall off sooner than later. - Yes, the fingerprint reader works and if you were paying attention to my Pros, you'll have noted the use of the word "patience" above. It's slow. Too slow for an emergency situation. All-in-all, I would recommend this safe if the cons I've listed are not a concern for your needs. ... show more

The finger print reader works well and was easy to set up. The pin doesn't seem to work. I've tried several times. It only has 4 numbers too, which is just strange. How much would the full keypad have been? The safe is not deep enough for an M4 with no optics on it. The gun has to be in sideways for the door to close. I might get 4 long guns in there, but they'd be jammed together sideways without any scopes. There's no organization to it either. There was a 5 spot foam bracket that came with it, but there's no lower support and no way you're getting 5 guns in there. There's also one small shelf, but it's only good for ammo boxes. I have 2 hand guns in there for now, but they're just sort of floating around in the bottom until I replace it. I have no idea what I'm going to use it for when I replace it either, so pretty much a waste of $400. This is a good safe for your kids .22s. Pretty much my opinion on this safe is that you should spend more money and get a better one. I should have. ... show more

This is exactly what I was looking for and with Black Friday deal, it almost seems unfair. Everything works great. The fingerprint scanner works every time. I put in all my fingers and in three different angles. There hasn't been a flaw yet. I also wanted a keypad second option and obviously a key. Multiple securing points made it easy to secure to the wall. The accessories with it was more then comparable ones and love that the entire inside was lined to keep everything nice and scratch free. Pretty disappointing. The entire unit just feels cheap - I was hoping for a 'basic but solid' offering. But it is not well made. The door rattles back and forth when closed and even when locked. The door isn't a tight, flush fit. Moreover, the locking bolts that are in the door don't fully recess/retract when the handle is open and they hit the frame. So it doesn't smoothly close - you have to jiggle it or slam it to close. (Perhaps my unit is just out of alignment or something.) Inside the door, the plastic box that holds the batteries that power the fingerprint reader was cracked and the tab for closing it was bent. The tab where the cover clicks in was cracked and broken and immediately upon trying to close it the entire battery box cover broke off. I didn't even bother putting the batteries in it. Anyhow. An 82 lb. paperweight, I suppose. I would not recommend this product, nor would I buy it again. ... show more

I don’t often write reviews, but I was a bit disappointed in this purchase. To start off, the product itself is great and works as intended. But the shipping and customer service by Amazon was poor. My safe got damaged during shipping with dents in 3 places which are pretty visible even at a distance. The safe is still functional and the dents don’t compromise it’s function, but I reached out to Amazon to request a partial refund (like a $50 Amazon gift card and I keep the product) due to the damage. I was told they couldn’t do anything about it except do a return. The safe is over 80 lb and quite tall, hauling it to UPS and the cost of shipping (to Amazon themselves) would be way more than to offer compensation, yet I was blown off. So, buyer beware:the product is great for the price point, but if it becomes damaged during the poor shipping process, Amazon won’t offer any compensation and force you to haul it to return. That’s what their customer service is like nowadays. ... show more

The safe is exactly as advertised. Yes- it is small but I didn't need or want a huge one. Was able to register fingerprints and pin code following the instructions. Biometrics work well and I like the fact that you can use a 9 volt battery as an emergency battery backup should the internal batteries die.
