Years ago, while volunteering at a wildlife refuge and giving tours on elk during the rutting season, my mentor had a rather expensive whistle he used to call for the elk. I had one of these bamboo flutes in the house as they were a toy for my son. Out of curiosity, and hearing him blow on it one day, I practiced with this to imitate a elk bugling call. I got it close enough to work and when on a tour one day, and with my mentor present, I pulled out this flute and used it to get a response from an elk. He was amazed that this little flute could do that. Now, years later, I am back in the area of that wildlife refuge. Rutting season is just now starting for the elk and I've been practicing again with this flute to make elk bugling calls close enough to get a response. I'm close enough to give it a try. The items smalls bad. The varnish / paint is of very low quality. Will not recommend putting in you mouth to play.

They were cheap, so wasn't expecting much. Leaves a bad taste in the mouth. kids weren't excited to try.

    • The worst product from Amazon!
I would give this product a zero star if possible. This is my worst purchase from Amazon and I could not believe Amazon actually sells this product. There are not real Dizi or flute. All products are made of crapy bamboo stem. All of them had been coated with a thick layer of unknown substance with very strong smell. We washed them many many times but still could not get rid of the smell. You really can not help but thinking what the manufactuers had done with these bamboos. You can not give them to your children. I am wondering if Amazon can accept a free return... Stay away this junk. ... show more

    • Exactly what I expected
There was a variety in quality, tone and a couple were cracked but they were affordable and perfect for the craft that I used them for. I would recommend these and I would buy them again for a musical art-making activity

Smelled like paint, tasted like poison. You get what you pay for. I returned them for a refund. Carnivals wouldn't even carry this stuff.
