the pen feels really sturdy and well made, for beginners this is a nice pen as it feels solid, rolls nicely, and has a good thickness and grip. the battery pack provides enough power to use the pen for around 4 hours with a continuous voltage it also charges in around 2 hours from 0 to 100%, and the case provides really good protection for transportation the cartridges it includes are made of pen ink and are for practicing on paper, this is good if you do not want to practice with real needles but in my opinion, they do not behave the same. ... show more

First, let's consider that this is a very inexpensive kit. With that in mind, this is a good starter set for anyone seeking to enter the world of tattooing. It's a solid investment, in my view. The pen is very nicely made, and has a really good finish, and nice shape. It doesn't run the best, but then it is not a $1,000.00 tattoo pen. It runs well enough. There is some considerable noise when running above 8.5 volts, which generally is not a problem. It's also not the smoothest pen. However, for your purposes for practice, and as a beginner, it's very good. The pen is designed to run off an AC power supply, which is included in the kit. It's all metal, and a solid unit. It allows you (at least) to see what voltage you're working at, which is a major plus compared to most inexpensive kits. Those leave the actual voltage to guesswork. The foot switch is also good, and the kit includes the power cable, as well as a clip cord. There are also the following items in the kit: 20 tattoo ball point practice cartridges. This is really great, since these are expensive, generally, and are excellent for practice in the beginning. They can really help get your technique down. There is also a single roll of black grip tape (narrow), a single pair of black latex exam gloves, and four sheets of practice printed designs that you can follow with the pen. This is the first kit I've seen that has these designs for your to follow, and they're a great idea. Overall, a very nice kit, and perfect to begin your practice. Over time, you'll want to invest in more supplies (i.e., inks, needle cartridges, transfer paper, synthetic practice skins) to further your practice, and hone your skills. I'd say this kit was a bargain, and that it approaches beginning tattooing from a new perspective, and a very practical one. This would definitely be a great gift for someone who would like to learn more about tattooing, and it's an inexpensive way to do so. ... show more

This kit is definitely aimed at beginners who are trying to learn techniques. It doesn't come with regular needles, instead it has ballpoint pen cartridges. I've tried other ballpoint pen cartridges before and decided to give this a try as well. This pen is OK, but I would never use it on real skin. It can run a bit loud and it isn't very smooth. It is OK if you're just doing practice with the ballpoint cartridges to get the feel of things. It is an inexpensive option if you're not sure if you want to invest in learning to tattoo and want to try it out and learn how it feels. I think if you're a beginner and you're not yet comfortable with real needles and inks, this kit might be ok for you. If you do want to go further with learning to tattoo, there may be better beginner sets out there, but they'll be more expensive. ... show more
