The second one works -- after we figured out that we had to play around with the temperature C/F button. Now that it's in the pool, it is working well and easy to read from the pool deck. The only negative is that the pool thermometer is registering 2 degrees warmer than our (expensive) instant read cooking thermometer. I am part of the Amazon Vine program and so I ordered two of these that are identical in every way possible to see if they’d register the same temperature. To be fair, the documentation states that it should be accurate with 1° and I’ve found that to be true. One thermometer had 88.0° and the other showed 88.7°. I also had my kitchen thermometer attached and in the water, showing the same 88° (I know this thermometer to be 1° off). Given that 3 thermometers were within 1° or less, I feel confident that this thermometer is reading within acceptable accuracy and therefore I gave it 4 stars. If both these digital thermometers had registered the same temperature, they would have gotten the full 5 stars. I’m happy with the solar panel providing minimal power to the rechargeable battery because every time I’ve gone outside to look at the temperature, it’s always on. I’ve never seen the screen blank. Additionally I like that the thermometer portion extends 5 inches below the surface because that’ll give a good reading of the true pool temperature below the surface and I’d think that it would prevent the reading from being influenced by the plastic casing outside the pool, floating on the surface. ... show more
