  • Worked fine but rules scattered! Make sure you can use it before buying
Style: Dumpster
I bought a couple of bags because I had two different lots to clean. I was clearing out rocks, some cactus, and other debris. As others have noted, be certain that you can use these before buying because there's a lot of rules. Some are on the website, some are in the package. Yes, I know I just said find out before you buy, but also said some rules are in the package. Rules might change over time so I am not listing them here, but others have, and you can look around and do research before you buy as I did. I recommend starting with the bagster website especially for your address and just go on from there. For example, they do not service everywhere, and if they do service your area, you need to be within so many feet of a driveway or street for the truck to access it. You have to have so many feet of open clearance above and around the bag. They have these rules because they use a type of crane on the truck to load the bag into in the truck. For another example, some localities service the area but won't pick up yard debris or other items. You can enter your address on the Bagster site and it will let you know of any site-specific items. You must adhere to the rules or they won't pick up! According to others, they may charge you if they come and can not pick up because you didn't follow the rules. Unfortunately these rules are scattered, you can't find them all in one place, so check the website specifically for your address to make sure service is available in your area, that they'll pick up the type of trash that you're trying to get rid of, as well as some of the rules on bag placement. Also, check the paperwork that comes in the bag for other rules on how the bag must be loaded and bag placement rules. Like I said the rules are scattered. That said, I had a place on both lots that fit the criteria. Some have said that they had trouble with the initial loading, saying the bag walls were falling on them. I had no issues. I placed the bag and stretched it out. Per the directions, I then folded the walls down, in half, which made the walls twice as thick, self supporting them, so they were stiff enough to stand by themselves. I then placed heavy rocks in each corner, basketball size, to stretch the bag, hold it in place for further loading, and also help hold up the walls. Having done that, filling it afterwards was easy. I could run a wheelbarrow with rocks into the center of it and dump the rocks. Once I got near the halfway point I could unfold the sides and then pop the sides back up to fully fill the bags with lighter debris. TMI probably, but the point is if you'll take a little care, and follow the directions, filling it should be easy, I believe. Once they were filled, I went on the website - gave it my information, address and credit card to schedule a pickup. They came out within a few days and picked up both bags. As luck was have it I was home when they arrived and saw the truck, so I watched them do it. They use a truck with a crane on top. The crane swivels out over the bag, they latch onto the handles to pick it up, and drop it in the truck. All of this works great. I thought it was an easy experience except for the rules being scattered. I wish they would have put them all on the website so I could have seen them all at once and in one place. Obviously the locality specific things that would have to be separate because they depend on your address those are on the website. You really shouldn't have to wait to purchase the product to look in the bag to find additional rules those should be on the website. In my case my reading reviews I took a calculated risk and it worked out great. Basically if you've got an open area near where a truck can drive you're probably okay. In summary it worked fine for me I was very happy with it. ... show more

  • Exceeded My Expectations with Dirt, Rock, & Junk Disposal
Style: Dumpster
I had a HUGE pile of dirt and rocks in my driveway after a fence installation, and my quest began to find a way to get rid of it. Who knew that getting rid of dirt and rocks could be so difficult? Indeed, it was. Nobody really wants this stuff, and anybody who will take it usually wants you to haul it away. I didn't have a way to move it myself. A traditional dumpster service will cost you $300-$400 (minimum). In my area, I was able to get a Bagster hauled away for $114 (not included in the purchase of the bag itself on Amazon). All you have to do to arrange for the haul away is call their 800 number or go onto their website to schedule the pickup, which is the option I chose. Because dirt and rocks are heavy, Bagster tells you that you can only put 1 cubic yard of dirt and rocks into the bag. This works out to be 10 inches deep in the bag, which measures 8 feet long and 4 feet wide. Frankly, I think I put more than 10 inches of dirt and rocks in the bag. In addition, as they told me I could, I put a bunch of other junk on top of the dirt/rocks, including a heavy wooden pallet, an old bed frame, and miscellaneous other junk. Sizing it up, I had serious doubts that the bag would hold up when they tried to hoist it onto a truck. I was fearful of getting home to find a big pile of dirt and junk in my yard after the bag ripped open. Instead, everything went off without a hitch. In addition to the impressive performance of the Bagster, the service is very organized and well coordinated. I received an email from Bagster confirming my online scheduling of the pickup, another email on the day they were going to send out a truck, and a third email confirming that everything was picked up as planned. It was professional, economical, and simple. I would DEFINITELY use this service again. ... show more

  • Product Is Great & Service Excellent
Style: Dumpster
However you look at it, the idea is great, but based on the reviews here, it is obvious that the devil is in the execution. Waste Management is my garbage collector, and generally, I am pretty happy with them. I ordered three Bagsters last year, and scheduled pickup online in each case. In each case, WM picked up the bag within 12 hours of the target time. I would typically close off the handles with a short bungee cord, and each time, they removed the bungee cord and hung it on a fencepost. I live in the East Bay of the NorCal Bay Area, and while I have no doubt there are WM horror stories, I have been fortunate not to experience them. That's why I am ordering a 4th and a 5th. As for the product, the Bagster itself, it is pretty amazing for a bag. Arrives small, and literally swallows 3 cubic yards of stuff. it is tough, nearly indestructible. As the directions advise, make sure to place the Bagster where you intend it to be picked up. Once full, it is pretty heavy. 20130306 Update: I filled my fourth Bagster this past week, on a Sunday, and then paid for and scheduled its pickup online. Paying for the service online this year seems slightly more difficult than last year, but only in the sense that the Bagster ordering page seems a little harder to find. WM is now featuring actual dumpster rental on their site, and it may well be that they see the Bagster as moderately competitive, but that's pure speculation on my part. Anyway, I received a confirmation email, and then on Tuesday, an early morning email that my pickup was scheduled for that day. At the end of the day, my Bagster had not been picked up. I have no idea if bad weather contributed to the delay, but in any case, it was picked up on Wednesday, the 6th, within the 72-hour commitment window. Still a satisfied customer here in the Oakland Hills. ... show more
