  • High Quality & Expands Beautifully!
Size: 51 Quart Style: 51 Quart Expanding Soil
This organic coir is fantastic quality and exactly what I needed. It hydrates quickly, expands beautifully, and provides excellent moisture retention and aeration for potting mixes. It's clean, consistent, and has zero weird odors or debris mixed in. Definitely a reliable go-to for starting seeds, blending custom soil, or potting up plants. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Fibrous texture not powdery like competitors
Size: 51 Quart Style: 51 Quart Expanding Soil
Great fibrous texture. I’ve gotten powdery coco coir from other brands but this brand is consistent and great. The value for what you get is very fair. Extremely low dust. Rehydrates easily. I’ve bought two 51qt bricks from here already. Will come back in future.

  • Perfect for making potting soil
Size: 51 Quart Style: 51 Quart Expanding Soil
Combine with a good compost and perlite for making great potting soil and half the price of a high quality bag of potting soil. Great germination; wonderful for winter sowing. Used it for years to save in the cost of quality potting soil. Environmentally friendly when used in place of peat.

  • Perfect solution if you have limited space to work and still want a lot of soil
Size: 51 Quart Style: 51 Quart Expanding Soil
While this wasn’t my first experience working with plants, it was my first time needing to completely replace soil to rescue a plant from gnat-infested soil. I chose Back to the Roots Organic Coir, 51 Quart Expanding Soil because I wanted a clean, organic option that would help eliminate pests rather than reintroduce them. I also was working with a small space to replant. I did this in the bathroom. I placed the compressed block directly into a 27-gallon tote and added water let it expand and did a little chopping with a spatula. What stood out the most was just how much soil this product produced. Expanding the coir directly in the 27-gallon tote nearly filled the entire container, which really exceeded my expectations for a single compressed block. The soil has a rich, fine texture and looks evenly hydrated and well-aerated, as shown in the image. It was easy to work with and didn’t feel heavy or muddy, making it ideal for gently replanting without compacting the roots too tightly. Overall, this expanding soil made a stressful plant-rescue situation feel manageable and successful. The lightweight texture retains moisture while still draining well, which is especially important when dealing with fungus gnats. Since switching to this soil, the plant feels more stable and supported, and the surface stays clean instead of soggy. For anyone needing to refresh contaminated soil, repot stressed plants, or simply wants a clean and reliable organic growing medium, Back to the Roots Organic Coir delivers excellent volume, quality, and peace of mind. Picture is of the newly repotted plant. ... show more

  • Packaging needs an update- but so far so good!
Size: 51 Quart Style: 51 Quart Expanding Soil
So far I’m pretty happy with it! It expanded quite a bit (including a photo of it all completely soaked in my wheelbarrow) and actually surprisingly was just enough for my small garden bed. I added a thin layer of mulched yard debris underneath and then this soil on top and while I definitely didn’t think it was enough, somehow it turned out to be about the perfect amount! I will update again when I plant my seedlings and see if they like it? I removed star because the packaging is just god awful. It came completely busted open inside of the box and got dirt everywhere. Please PLEASE update the packaging. And if you’re ordering this, do not order it with any other package because it will bust open inside the box. ... show more

  • Amazing!
Size: 51 Quart Style: 51 Quart Expanding Soil
This is definitely a good option for growing plants and likely using as a compost base too! The brick is heavy and once you add water, it gets even heavier. For reference, I have a picture of a 30 gallon bucket. It expands all way to the half-point in the 30 gallon bucket. It hasn’t been dusty at all and I haven’t seen any infestation. I really like this for my flowers and plants. Hopefully I can get some lettuce, herbs, and potatoes growing so I don’t have to get stuff from stores! ... show more

  • So much soil in one block!!
Size: 51 Quart Style: 51 Quart Expanding Soil
Wow!! I’m amazed with this product. I dread buying soil and this feels like such a better bang for my buck. I feel like there is often gnats is regular bags of soil. This stuff is light weight and breathable. I’ve only expanded 1/3 and I have so much.

  • Buy more than you think.
Size: 51 Quart Style: 51 Quart Expanding Soil
Well considering a lot of reviews when I bought this product where from ppl who got this for free, ill be the first to tell you I used 13 bricks to cover a 8ft×4ft×1ft raised garden bed PLUS top soil for an inground bed PLUS I used it to start the seeds. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW WHEN USING THIS PRODUCT: please invest in plant food and fertilizer. Your plants specifically need potassium because coco husks will not give them that. This is why your seedlings are turning purple. I used both dry and liquid feed. I have not noticed an increase in bugs BUT this stuff warms really well in the sunlight. It takes lots of water folx and it drains fairly well. I started over 200 plants this year and I plan on expanding my personal garden next year so yes, I will be a repeat customer. I love this stuff. ... show more
