Small and versatile chorus pedal.
This pedal is about 75% the size of an EHX pedal (EHX Silencer pictured for comparison). The case is 100% metal and feels substantial. It's not heavy, but it will likely stay in place as well as any other pedal even if you don't attach it to a pedalboard. It included a non-slip rubber pad sticker and a velcro sticker to attach it to a pedal board. You can use either, or none if that's your preference. I really like the way this looks too. My wife said it's gaudy, but that's a selling point to me. The crazier the paint job, the more I like them. I like lots of colors and stuff on my pedal board, so this fits right in with my other pedals. The chorus effect is controlled by three "standard" chorus controls. Speed, depth, and mix. On the lower settings, it sounds lush much like a Digitech chorus to me, and on the upper end of the control spectrum, it sounds wobbly much like an EHX chorus to me. You will be able to dial in any chorus tone you'd like. It does not run on a battery. I used a Snark 9v Pedal power supply and hear no discernable noise coming from the pedal. The user manual is pretty sparse on details, but the device requires 100mA to power, which is fairly normal for a chorus pedal. It does not say if it's true-bypass or buffered output, but I suspect it's buffered. Most true bypass pedals have switches that click hard when you press them. This one doesn't. The recording is direct through ProTools with a Fender 50th Aniversary Custom Strat through a Fractal FM9 Super Verb "normal" patch. Overall, I like this pedal a lot, and when it comes time to rebuild my pedalboard, I'm sure this will end up on it. For a budget pedal, it easily performs out of its price range.

Great entry-level chorus pedal, with just a few quirks.
This is really quite a good chorus pedal, at a really good price. I would not hesitate to recommend this chorus pedal to anyone looking to buy their first one in an economy price range. This pedal is great, but it does have a few very minor quirks. First, lets get the basics out of the way. This is a DSP based pedal, and uses 70.6 mA. It’s white, with very nice looking matte-finish artwork. The matte finish feels strong (I couldn’t scratch it with my fingernail). It comes with both a velcro and grippy back, so you can install either one you prefer. The most quirky think you should know about is the mix knob. Even with mix all the way at zero, the pedal is not transparent. There is still about a 1.4x gain on the clean signal when the mix knob is at minimum (verified by oscilloscope). And, still with the mix knob at minimum, it also seems to color the tone a bit, emphasizing the lows, and deemphasizing the highs. This is going to lose it ½ star. When mix is at minimum, you should only hear the pure, clean signal, without coloration. However, once you turn the mix up, the chorus effect takes over, and you don’t care how it colors the clean tone anymore, because it gets lost in the chorus effect. Of course, in bypass mode, you get the 100% clean signal, so this isn’t too big of a deal (hence only losing ½ star). The rate knob has a really good range, from about 0.7 Hz to about 7 Hz, and it covers all the most desirable chorus sounds without ever getting too crazy or warbley. I like to keep it at about 12 o’clock, and it sounds beautiful. The depth knob is going to lose them another ½ star. It just doesn’t seem to do much. Yes, it does something, but not much. At minimum, you get a fairly deep chorus. At maximum, you get a fairly deep chorus. It almost sounds like just the tone is very subtly changing, but even that’s so subtle you can’t really pin it down. I don’t really care where I set that knob, because its influence is so minor. Quirks aside, this is a very nice, thick, lush sounding chorus. In this price range, this is really a solid value. The build quality is good, the sound quality is great, and the chorus is lush and beautiful. I just wish the depth knob were a little more responsive. Final Rating: 4 stars. It lost a total of 1 star for the mix not really going to zero (still some gain and tone coloration) and the depth knob not really doing as much as it could. Still, it sounds great, and you really can't go wrong at this price.

This is what I'm talking about
Let me tell you, I am very impressed by the quality and the sounds of this pedal. This little mini in my opinion can do everything and anything that the big boy name brands can. While I play both bass and rhythm guitar, I decided to put this with my bass line up. Just within a few minutes and a couple quick twist of the knobs, I was able to create some very unique sounds equal to some of the best world known bands. My pedal line up is of course a DI box, Overdrive and the Azor Chorus pedal. I could get just about any Heavy Metal bass sound you can name. Even with the Overdrive off and just the Chorus on, I could mimic some of the sounds of today's top bass players. Now of course mimic is the key word here, I'm still learning and in no way have the level of talent myself, but it was still a lot of fun to dial in some very cool sounds. Play time over, I finally settled on a setting for some of my bands songs and found it added an extremely cool dimension to certain songs and certain parts. Now of course I won't be using it all the time, but if you're on a budget but still looking for that big sound, I can say with strong confidence that these pedals would be a good choice. We're talking metal casing, not hard plastic, but metal. Small and compact, it will easily fit without taking up much space on your pedal board. It even has it's own Velcro backing that you can add if you choose. It's got your basic buttons, Rate, Depth and Mix. Each pedal has it's own name, for the Chorus, the pedal name is Goat. As I said, I am very impressed with this pedal. In fact I'm impressed enough that I have two more pedals on the way. So yeah check these guys out on the Azor page, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Thank you.

Tiger Overdrive: Another Great Value From Azor
The Tiger Overdrive is the third pedal I've reviewed in the Azor "animal" series, and it may be the best deal yet. These pedals are very well-made, compact and reasonably priced. They are great "starter" pedals for players who aren't ready (or willing) to spend big money on the "cool" stuff. From their product description, Azor apparently intended the Tiger to replicate the sound of the Marshall "Bluesbreaker" amp. Never having owned one, I can't comment on that. But I can state that the Tiger has a good variety of sounds, ranging from a smooth OD to sonic mayhem. The four controls are Volume, Gain, Tone and Voice- misspelled "Vioce" on the pedal. With the Volume at 9 O'clock and the other controls cranked, the Tiger reminds me of my DOD GRUNGE pedal, which to me is a good thing. Others may prefer the smoother sounds. I got good results with both single-coil and humbucking pickups, and the Tiger is also not half bad for bass guitar, if you are so inclined. This OD is versatile enough to please players of many styles. As usual, a 9-Volt center negative adaptor or pedal power unit is required. Few, if any, new guitar pedals have battery compartments anymore. Azor includes magnetic and Velcro strips for pedal-board attachment. Azor also offers a Horse OD and a Chicken OD, and you could own them all for far less than the cost of a "boutique" pedal. I believe these Azor "animal" pedals are well worth trying.

Not a bad chorus.
I was actually surprised by how nice this sounds. I haven't needed a new chorus pedal since I got a Red Witch Medusa over 10 years, ago so I haven't really tried any since then. Sound wise this has decent clarity and is fairly lush and is definitely a tad brighter than my Medusa. But the Medusa is analog not digital. I still prefer the Medusa over this because there's a little warmth to it and a definitely more character. But this does sound really nice. A negative for me is It's not true bypass. That isn't a major problem most of the time, but the buffer in this does alter the tone very slightly. I don't have a lot of pedals but everything on my pedal board is analog and true bypass, but With this in the signal chain I can hear a change in the ambient hiss of the amp. It's not better or worse, it just sounds different, like the frequency shifted a little. So even when off it is still in the signal chain. In a live situation it really won't matter, but recording it could possibly cause issues. And if you have a pedal that doesn't like buffers definitely put this after it in the chain. On the bad. I have concerns over how they mount the board. The potentiometers are what secures the board to the enclosure and they fully tighten them down. BUT they are a little short and don't have spacers. This causes the board to be stressed and it is actually curved in the enclosure. That isn't a huge problem with traditional through hole construction. But these have a lot of surface mount components and flexing the board like that can put a lot of strain on those solder points. If the manufacturer sees this you really should consider adding spacers between the enclosure and body of the potentiometer to relieve stress on the board. Overall for the money this isn't bad.

Old versus new
I own many AZOR pedals, all mini, analog and with true bypass which I’ve been using for years without a hint of trouble. When I noticed they recently released digital models, I couldn’t resist checking a few of them out. This review is for the AP511 “Goat Chorus”. It shares the same physical traits with others in this new line: - Rugged cast aluminum alloy body, all identical in color (white). - Includes both rubber and Velcro hook bottom adhesive pads. - Large diameter knobs, making fine adjustments easier. - Although not mini, it remains more compact than full-sized pedals. - Colorful top graphics, although they’re simply a sticker. A wide variety of Chorus effects can easily be obtained, although seemingly at the price of taming other pedal types earlier in the chain in favor of its own sound. This is true regardless of the Mix knob setting. Sound aside, its biggest step backwards is going from true to buffered bypass: - Momentary contact foot switch, versus the latching type which retain their previous state. - Worse yet, it always initializes as active. I can’t imagine many guitarists would want a Chorus pedal operative by default, whenever it’s powered off then back on again. I really don’t see many improvements here, especially considering its much higher asking price compared to the older AP309 Chorus. All things considered, in my opinion this product is a disappointing miss by AZOR.

Okay But A Bit Muddy Sounding
Azor is releasing a new line of colorful budget pedals. Judging from this chorus pedal, there is still room for improvement. Positives: 1. Build quality is good, everything functions as it should. 2. I did not notice that this pedal added much - if any - noise to my chain at lower volumes. Negatives: 1. It is typical of chorus pedals to give a noticeable treble boost when engaged. This new pedal, however, seems to boost the low end slightly and lower the treble, which makes for a muddier-sounding chorus effect. 2. There is a small amount of gain introduced when the pedal is on. It is therefore difficult to get a clean sound - again, it is sort of muddy. 3. No matter how I tweak the knobs, I was never able to get the kind of lush, shimmery chorus effect that was so popular in the 80's. The pedal sounds like it's 2/3 of the way there but never quite gets to the place where you are playing through it and are just fascinated and delighted by the tones you are getting. OVERALL SUMMARY: This is a serviceable chorus pedal if nothing else is available, but you can do better. I do not use chorus often so for quick and dirty tones this will do in a pinch, but it is not that great. I liked an older Azor Mini-Chorus pedal (model AP309) over this one.
