  • Great value! This set is awesome!
I received this set as part of the Amazon Vine program. My review is my own, with no outside influence. This set contains an E6B flight computer, a sectional plotter, a kneeboard, and a package of refill tablets for the kneeboard. It arrived in 2 days. The E6B and plotter are packaged in clear plastic sleeves inside of a sturdy cardboard box, which includes an instruction book for the E6B and the plotter. The VFR kneeboard is packaged in a separate cardboard box with a tablet of about 40 pages for VFR flight planning. In addition to all of this, a package of 3 additional tablets is included. Giving the pilot about 160 pages. The E6B is made of thick and sturdy plastic. The markings on each part of the computer are crisp and clear. This is especially good to see considering how small the markings have to be to pack so much information onto each side. The circular slide moves smoothly with the slightest touch, making it very easy to manipulate. The ease of movement and the crisp detail of the markings make accuracy easy to obtain. For the advertised cost of this package, the buyer is getting a great deal. I would expect at least 50% - 75% more expensive, given the high quality. If you are looking for a manual flight computer, this is the one to get. 5-stars! ... show more

  • A solid kit for most new pilots, as long as your computing gear doesn't need to be hard-use.
I was pleasantly surprised by this kit. Although I'm near the end of flight school with my Private/Instrument/Commercial certs done and CFI in progress, I got this with a view to a brand-new pilot just starting out their training path. In that context, I think it's a solid option for an aviation newcomer. The kneeboard and writing pads are good to go, the plotter seems solid, and the E6B isn't bad. That said, the E6B is my only slight downgrade point. My original ASA E6B is the standard tough metal construction that most pilots use, and it's stood up to a good amount of use with many trips in a flight bag. This one is not metal, it's a flexible plastic material which gives me a little bit of concern over its durability. It wouldn't stand up to the same level of travel and abuse that the hard-plate ASA version does. It's also not the easiest to turn the wheel on it - a little bit of surface texturing to help move it along would be nice. Especially if you can grab it on sale or with a coupon to bring it down from the full price of $65 to more like $40-50ish, I think that'd be the sweet spot for this setup in terms of pricing. Or if the E6B was a bit sturdier, it would more easily justify the full price in my opinion. It comes down to your anticipated usage. If your E6B and plotter can stay at home and just be used for flight planning on your table or desk, this plastic one should do just fine. If you need it to be hauled around in your flight bag, tossed into the back seat of your Cessna 172 or Piper PA-28, pulled out in flight, etc., then it may be worth springing for a different and more durable flight computer. Those points aside, it still generally works well, looks nice, and I think overall the package is a decent value for money with good products. I also think the EntireFlight brand as a whole is interesting, and I hope they continue to expand into new/improved and cost-effective aviation product offerings. ... show more

  • Amazing kit
I love it. There's 4 booklets of notepad sheets for VFR flying, which is more than enough for even the student pilot flying daily for training. These will last me for quite some time for sure. The sheets are designed to tear off when you're done with them. There's fields for just about everything you may get - departure/arrival weather, clearance + taxi instruction space, space for writing down hobbs and tach times, and plenty of just note space. The stretchy velcro is just perfect for me, though it may be a bit small on some other people. The kneeboard itself has essential information as well - cruising altitudes, cloud clearance and visibility, a space for you to write down v-speeds for your aircraft (little stickers included to write on), and some emergency reminders. It also comes with a manual E6B and plotter that you can use if you use paper maps, though I would highly recommend buying either a CX3 or electronic E6B instead. The manual ones are great for learning, but you'll quickly realize that electronic is the way to go. Overall, I think they got the pricing right, it's in line with their other products as well as other manufacturers out there. The one thing I do wish was included is a tablet mount. ... show more

  • Great for PPL students to get started with.
This is a good setup. I have my pilot certificate and even as a software engineer I chose to learn using a traditional E6B slide calculator as opposed to an electronic calculator. Whether you get this one or a metal version, you'll ultimately better understand the relationship of angles, velocity, and conversions if you're using a slide rule like this compared to just typing in numbers and reading back a number. Having a core foundation of understanding of the fundamentals that affect flight is something you can skate by with at first, but down the line it'll make things harder on you than it should have been. I highly recommend students start with a setup like this and use paper charts until you get your PPL, then switch over to EFBs for your IFR and beyond. The clipboard is great too - even though your efb let you write out CRAFT, it's a bit awkward to write on an ipad while actually flying as compared to a kneeboard. I love the built in pen/pencil holder on this board - I added one to my previous board, so really appreciate this one have it already. My own plane now has pen/pencil holders all over the place because you never want to be searching for one trying to remember what ATC told you 30 seconds ago. The pads of paper have everything you want on it - I didn't train with their layout so I didn't use them and continue to just use blank sheets like I always had, but I could see where a lot of it would be valuable if you used their layout. ... show more
