I have a couple of restoration projects that I have begun working on, and one thing that I needed to do was remove the windshield on each. I wasn't looking forward to this as the last time I had to do this, I had to use a standard, old fashioned windshield removal tool; the type with the hook blade and handle assist. Not fun, not easy, and not something I wanted to do again. I found this kit on Amazon and thought it looked worth trying; what an understatement that is. The main tool makes this process completely different from what I had to do the last time; place it on the windshield and then it sticks like it was part of the glass; the adhesion is amazing. It pulls the cutting wire smoothly and easily, simply amazing functionality. It's built like a proverbial tank, so there should be no issues with it lasting. It isn't cheap, but you certainly get what you pay for and the savings in time, blood, sweat and tears is tremendous. I didn't know it could be this easy.

My husband is a mechanic but also does a lot of vehicle junking, so tools like this are in regular rotation. This has been a huge upgrade for him compared to the various tools he was previously using to remove windshields. The dual cutting setup makes a big difference. You can cut through adhesive much faster without constantly resetting everything. That alone speeds up the whole process and makes the job less frustrating. The suction cup is strong and holds steaking, keeping everything in control while cutting. No slipping or worrying about putting uneven pressure on the glass. He's pulled multiple windshields already and hasn't had any issues with cracking. Build quality is solid and feels made to last. It holds up to repeated use, which is important in a shop setting or when pulling parts often. Overall invaluable addition to a tool setup.

I got this for replacing the window on my Durango. I didn't actually do it I just got the tool so my neighbor who does it all the time wouldn't have to bring equipment home from work and I would have it for the future. It quickly cut through adhesive and we had the old windshield out pretty quickly. Has really good suction power for holding while it's doing the cutting very sturdy once it's locked down. I would say it's easy to install at least it looked easy when he was doing it. I will probably attempt it at some point but just not on my windshield lol. The price is pretty good for this quality of a kit. Just know that this will not help you installing the new windshield. We had multiple electronic suction cups for placing the windshield down.

Everything considered, I like this windshield removal tool kit. It has all the basics that you need to make the job a little easier and cleaner than trying to do it without one. In the past I've replaced windshields without this type of string-cutting tool, and I can assure you it isn't the easiest thing to do - trying to separate the glass from the urethane glue. But the string should help make that task much easier and safer. On the unit I received it was probably jostled a lot in shipment and is missing a nut for one of the small pulleys. It's not a huge deal but it does mean a trip to the parts bin (or store) to get it going. I think it probably should have been enclosed in a plastic bag entirely, so in the same event it doesn't get lost. Construction of the unit seems good and looks like it should do the job. The suction of the tool is good and appears to hold well against even dry glass and I'm sure that cleaning the glass and keeping it moist will do an even better job, as with most suction cups. I also found the pressure release to work well. A container would be nice, particularly as the tool is a bit large and shaped oddly. It would have been a nice addition, especially one that would hold all the little hand tools and spool. In all, it seems a decent option. Take your time and be careful.
