I was a little bit worried reading other review on this, but when the item arrived I discovered that the biggest problem to assembling this was.........ME. I had never assembled a dovetail box before, and while I could get three sides together that fourth side was refusing me. Turns out I had to TURN THAT SIDE AROUND and my problems were solved. This COULD easily be solved by the manufacturer with a little pencil marking to indicate Left/Right/Front/Back/Outside/Inside. Lacking this, here is the secret. Dovetails have a wide part and a skinny part, and they have a tapered side. Match the wide pins to the wide inserts and MATCH THE TAPER. These should require just a few light taps to set into place. When you get to the critical fourth wall, spread the two sides slightly wider open and *slide* those tails into place. Don't be a doofus like me, and attempt to hammer them in. Again, they should only need a little tapping to set them. If they're begin stubborn, trying flipping the board over (left to right) and see if that works. This wood definitely likes to split. I hand-screwed everything to prevent this. I did get some splitting due to my own idiocy which I will be gluing back together, but even with all that, this is still perfectly functional.

No bees yet so can't talk about how it works. Instructions kinda vague. Can't wait to put some bees in it.

The instructions really are quite sparse, it was missing some screws and most of the dovetail joints required additional sanding...but it's not hard to assemble if you're used to doing this sort of thing. I haven't put it to use yet so I don't know how the bees will respond, but I do like that the cedar is wax-coated.

we got it a bit late in the season but it is ready for next year or if we decide to purchase bees. I just realized I need brood box panels for the queen. not included.
