  • Best value for the dollar
Style: AMP100VS
I purchased the Audio Source 1 amp over 20 years ago and it is still working perfectly and it has thousands of hours on it. I recently purchased the newer Amp 100 and it is also a fantastic amp for the money. I believe Carver had a hand in the design of the Audio Source amps. The sound is clear, full and the bass is very good. For the money, you will need to spend $1000 to equal the sound quality. My Revell M106's along with the SVS 1000 Pro subs sound fantastic. Very hard to hear the difference between the Amp 100 and my new Rotel A12 MkII which is a $1200 amp using the same DAC. I really love the dual channels and simplicity of the Amp 100. I do agree on a review that the volume and balance knobs are too small but it's a small price to pay for such a good amp. I have never had any issue with overheating and I feel that the amp. runs pretty cool. I also really like the treble and bass control on the back of the amp. Giving the treble or bass a bit of a boost in the event your speakers need it was a very good idea. I found the bass was fine but my Revel M106's needed a bit of boost in the high end. My PSB 400's were fine flat. Don't be nervous about purchasing the Amp 100, it's a fantastic deal, great company and you will not find sound quality and build with an amp at this price. ... show more

  • If youwant your building to catch fire, this is the unit for you
Style: AMP100VS
A staff member called crying that she did not know were all the smoke was coming from. I was a few minutes away from work and when I arrived I was able to find the one month old unit making a lot of noise and still smoking. In the meanwhile I was on the phone with our monitoring service and the fire department was not called I unplugged it and took it and placed outside. We are now trying to get the smell out of our building. I am thankful that we were at or near work when this happened. If it had happened on the weekend, I am sure I would have received a call from our monitoring service telling us that the fire department was called. I would have arrived with our doors broken down so the fire department could get to the smoke or fire. If you want that sort of excitement in your life, I suggest this brand. By the way, no call back from manufacturer so far. 5-25-2022. Follow up: The manufacturer did contact me last year. They told me that they were having problems with the factory producing this unit and they had many quality control issues. They offered to send me the digital version which is a step up. Two weeks ago my system went down. I could not figure out the issue so I replaced each piece hoping to solve the problem. It turns out that the problem is Audiosource unit. So in conclusion, the first unit I had lasted 2 years. The second caught on fire after couple months and the final unit lasted 12 months. All the positive reviews are from people who just received their units. I wonder how many of them are happy one year later. My guess is not too many. ... show more

  • Ideal Solution For Streaming Digital Music Through Your Own Speakers
Style: AMP100VS
I've had an Audio Source AMP102 for a number of years and it has performed flawlessly. So when my 30+ year second receiver finally died on me, I immediately started thinking about an inexpensive replacement stereo. Here's the problem, other than the Marantz Slimline receiver models, which will set you back at least $400, there are virtually no decent powerful receiver components with a low enough profile to fit a tight shelf space. Now the second point: who listens to AM/FM anymore anyway? That's really what a receiver is for. I stream all my music with Sonos components around the house, which not only gives me local radio, but thousands of other options. Because I have a Sonos Connect, which requires an amp to broadcast sound, the best low-cost option was to buy just an amplifier. The Audio Source AMP 100VS2 fit the bill perfectly. It is less than 3" tall and has a small footprint. It also has A and B switches, which allows me to play two sets of speakers separately or together. Finally, you can't beat the price for a quality amp like this. If you stream music and don't have a self contained unit, or would rather stream through your own speakers, this is a great option. ... show more

  • Broke down after less than a year, but under warranty
Style: AMP100VS
I have had the amp for less than a year and it's done! At first I noticed that my Fronts weren't playing, even though the lights were all on (and the correct colors were on). I messed around with the connections a bit and it started working again. So I thought maybe it was the RCA cables running from the pre-out on the receiver to the amp. Changed the cord but shortly after, the amp stopped working again (all the lights still on) and has not produced signal since. It was obviously a coincidence that it started working again when I messed with the connections. So I put my Fronts back on the AVR power and just don't use my rear in ceiling Atmos speakers for now. Working fine now, besides not getting my full 7.2.4..... I am going to try and contact Audio Source and see if I get the same non-response as others have said. Will update this review once I do! UPDATE: Contacted Audio Source by phone and they picked up! I was told to get them all my info and an invoice by email, so I did. Now just waiting for the resolution to complete. It sounds like they will either fix it or get me a new unit! I will update this review again once it's resolved, one way or another! NEW UPDATE: The fixed unit came back all beat up from FedEx and was damaged, so they said toss that one and they sent me a new one. This time it was packaged adequately and arrived fine. The unit works so far! Overall I am happy with the service on this product! Upped the stars from 3 to 4 for the solid customer service! LAST UPDATE: It’s been over two years since I received the new unit and it’s still working great. ... show more
