  • High Quality at a Reasonable Price
Style: AT4050 Only
I have been using an AT2020 for studio recording and wanted to upgrade to the AT4050. For the under $100 price, the AT2020 is a really good entry level studio mic. To upgrade, I compared the AT4050 to the "gold standard brand" - Neumann model TLM102 which is around the same price. The AT4050 has a much better bottom end response than the Neumann and is an improvement over the AT2020. For a studio condenser mic under $800, it does a great job recording vocals. ... show more

  • Crystal Clear, Transparent, and a Broad Sound - Love it.
Style: AT4050 Only
I absolutely love this mic. It's so transparent and clear, and the diaphragm can handle a lot of volume without distorting. The frequency distribution sounds very flat and transparent, with perhaps a little boost on the high end. But that boost is absolutely not cold, not harsh, and not overly sibilant. It's just enough to bring out a little gravel in a voice, or some ring in a guitar. Before purchasing, I spent days listening to microphone shoot-outs through HQ speakers to help me make my decision. That was pretty difficult -- those shootouts can be pretty bad. I was looking for something with clarity that wouldn't color the sound too much -- or at least would have some warmth. This is not a warm mic. It's crystal clear, with a broad spectrum, and a huge bang for the buck. The way I see it, if you're operating on a budget, you can't necessarily afford a whole slew of microphones. What you need is something that delivers clarity so you have flexibility later. If that's what you're looking for, you'll love this thing. ... show more

  • Great Mic, Highly Recommended!
Style: AT4050 Only
This is beyond my expectations. It records the sounds so crisp that it is an improvement on any system that you might have before (if you are running an amateur / semi-professional studio). Highly recommended. The only downside is how hard it is to put the microphone in the official shock mount. The elastic bands do not elongate enough to create the needed gap for one person to fit the mic in its position. It's a slight problem, but it can be improved. ... show more

  • Quality and reliable microphone
Style: AT4050 Only
This is a very high quality microphone for it's price range, and it's one I believe I would keep on hand even with more expensive microphones available. I find it to be a very neutral sounding microphone without that often high-pitched harshness people complain about on some inexpensive microphones. It's become my new favorite vocal microphone for myself, ahead of an SM7B and an AKG 414-XLS, which are other microphones of the mid to high priced range a home-recording enthusiast might be considering. I find the low-end response for vocals to be very pleasing on my voice, and with no sibilance issues. The reason I gave this microphone 4 stars is because of the shock-mount design. The only thing between this microphone and the floor is a rubber band, and it's not as easy to place this microphone in it's shock mount as it should be. I feel like that's something that you should be able to get right without very much thought, sort of like plugging in a mic cable, yet I find myself doing it wrong sometimes and having to fiddle with the silly rubber bands. Even when it is placed properly it sort of sits there lopsided. I can only assume every other patent for a shock-mount was taken. ... show more

  • Might be the best vocal mic under $1,000
Style: AT4050 Only
I have bought several mics around the AT 4050 price range and above yet this mic is much warmer than all of them. I plan to get another AT4050 because it's that good. This is a pro mic. Tremendous value. Wish I knew about this mic before I wasted a lot of money on mics which aren't as good.

  • Fabulous Product
Style: AT4050 Only
My daughter lost her mind when she opened her Christmas present and saw this! According to her, it is top of the line, just what she needs. I'm glad her husband helped me pick it out. He is a camera man and she is a voice over, they both love this product. Highly recomended.

  • Sweet Mic
Great mic for voice over recording! With a little eq it also sounds great on acoustic guitars and singing.

  • Great reviews in the trade magazines so would not stay away. Just not for me.
Style: AT4050 Only
Buying microphones is really tough. This could be a fantastic mic for someone else in another location on a different voice, guitar, etc. Unfortunately for my purposes, it seemed rather flat and required a lot of EQ to get anything out of it. I did do some research prior to purchase and this is a well respected mic, so would not eliminate it from consideration based on a single review. ... show more
