  • Great Podcasting/Streaming Mic with room to grow!
Style: AT2005USB Pattern Name: Microphone
I recently got this mic after envying the sound quality one of my cohosts had on the podcast we run together. I had previously been using the Blue Snowball, and the sound quality was "robotic" for lack of a better word. No amount of editing was helping to eliminate that effect. My teammates in games also complained that when I got loud over something exciting, it was very annoying and shrill. With the at2005usb mic, I sound like I am right there in the room! No distortion. No issues at all. Best part? I just opened the package, mounted it on my boom arm and plugged in the usb. I didn't need to to do anything from a software point of view either! I just started recording that night on audacity! This mic being a dynamic cardioid mic, my teammates never hear my mechanical keyboard clicking, since it only picks up sounds directly in front of it. If you live in a noisey house or appartment, this mic will help cut out all that extra noise that you and your audience want none of. I do run a little bit of a noise gate via Voicemeeter Banana, but you really should not have to. A boom arm is 100% recommended for gaming with this mic, if you are a streamer. A cheap $20 boom will easily support this mic. The reason I said this mic has room to grow, is the ability to also use this mic with an XLR setup. That requires more investment in the mix amp and phantom power though, so I am in no rush on that front. This thing sounds great via usb already! This mic competes with the Blue Yeti or HyperX quadcast on price, but competes with much more expensive mics in terms of sound quality! I'd recommend this to anyone interested in sounding good, be it for podcasting, youtubing, streaming, voice over work, etc. ... show more

  • Quiter keyboard presses and less room noise
Style: AT2005USB Pattern Name: Microphone
I bought this microphone for my PC for voice chat and meetings. I was very hesitant to buy this mic and reviewed all sorts of options. The main problem from my previous mic was background noise -- lots of it. I previously owned the Blue Snowball and more recently was using the Blue Yeti. Both of these microphones have multiple modes and seem like the best value for the money. But they both pick up absolutely EVERYTHING - which is great if you're looking for that. But if I'm in a meeting and keeping notes, the clicking was ridiculous and on Discord every key press was as loud as my voice. The AT2005USB is a huge improvement. Having the microphone about 10 inches from my face, and fairly close to my keyboard, my voice comes through clear and my keyboard pressed are still audible but a very calm background noise. My voice sounds better than it did with a $350 AT headset -- confirmed by others on voice. If you are doing voice recording and have a quiet environment, the Blue Yeti is probably a better choice. If you have any amount of background noise (fans, keyboard clicks, family), then get this. If you have more extreme background noise then a proper headset is the only other option but in my experience they are very hit or miss. Headset microphones are not nearly on the same level as standalone microphones. ... show more

  • A solid microphone for amateurs and part-timers
Style: AT2005USB Pattern Name: Microphone
Overall, this microphone is one of the best "cheap" microphones (Under $100) that you can use for amateur voice work, youtube content, etc. and can function both as a USB mic for starting out, and as an XLR mic for more advanced use cases. While it's nothing like a professional studio mic in quality, it is definitely "above average" for what you'll find in similar price ranges if you're looking for directional audio. The only major suggestion I would have would be to purchase a longer and sturdier USB cable if you are going to be using it via USB (the connector on the microphone is a USB Mini B for those curious) - the included one is flimsy and short, out of the 2 AT2005USBs I have used (used in different locations), both had the cord go out within the first year - a solid braided USB cord will hold up fairly well though. If you plan on using a shock mount, you'll want to look at some of the shotgun mic ones, since this is a 'hand held' microphone - The Eggsnow one here on amazon (As of this review) works just fine for this microphone, and is fairly cheap. TL;DR Notes: - Buy a better USB cable (Microphone connector is USB Mini B) - If you need a shockmount, make sure it's one that will work for this microphone's size (they don't make shockmounts explicitly for this one) ... show more

  • Amazing mic for voice overs and podcast cannot be beat in this price range
Style: AT2005USB Pattern Name: Microphone
I was looking specifically for a good Dynamic mic as my recording space has many issues with extra sounds and poorly treated, I originally was usig a condenser and this made editing and post a nightmare! I mainly considered this the AT2100 and the Sure SM57. Primarily due to price and flexibility it came down to giving this one a try and I am glad I did. I use this to record a podcast and in truth it's replaced my main streaming and voip mic as well, the preamp seem to be good quality and the raw audio from the mic is good, with it being a dynamic the effect of background issues is much more predictable and easier to avoid or isolate. i have also found the inline 0 latency monitoring a very useful feature. I have yet to mic any instruments yet but I plan to see how it works out. In short I don't see how you can beat this mic for the price range its in especially when you add in all the flexibility you get from having XLR and USB in addition to options like the in line monitoring. I would go so far as to say you would need to spend closer to twice this for an option that really beats it. ... show more
