  • A Great Solution for Media Storage!
Color: Silver Size: 12 Tier
The Atlantic Maxsteel 63135237 Media Rack is a great product. I have used them for a few years now, and they really do hold up well. They provide plenty of shelves, and if you use them for DVDs, you will have shelves left over. I suspect you would only use all the shelves included if you only stored CD's, since they are not as tall. I have just purchased my fourth rack, and with the extra shelves left over from the racks I bought previously, I have realized that I can use the extra shelves to span between two racks, thus gaining another entire rack " for free".* Of course, it is very tall in relation to its footprint, so it is prone to tipping over if the supplied strap is not used to anchor it to the wall or some other method of stabilizing it is not used, but since there are no small children in my house, I simply set the easily adjusted (and very large) feet so that the unit leans toward the wall a little bit. (If you have young children or a lot of rough-housing going on, I would suggest making use of the strap.) These racks are stylish, sturdy, don't sag under the weight of DVDs, and don't stick way out into the room. Plus, since they are tall, they hold a lot of media, so space is used very efficiently. You can adjust the shelves in one-inch increments to whatever custom configuration you choose, so that a combination of different sized media can be stored without wasting space. This rack could also hold small books, such as paperbacks or other books that will fit on a shallow shelf, but since it was not designed for them, weight may be an issue with books, and since the shelves don't have diagonal bracing on each shelf, the shelves might sag a little in the middle (I'm not sure), but most inexpensive wood-product shelves eventually sag and warp under the weight of books anyway, and at least these metal racks would likely spring back straight when the weight was taken off (unlike wood, which holds the warp). The shelves are made from welded metal rods which will support longer items (across the rods), but since it is not a solid shelf, it would not hold small items such as vases or what-knots. I can think of no "cons" for this Media Rack; it is well worth the money. Otherwise, I would not have just bought my fourth one, right? I just hope they don't discontinue this item, because I want to keep adding the exact same new ones as my DVD collection grows. *Update, 2/25/2018: As mentioned above, I took all the leftover shelves from the four units I bought and strung them between the original sets, so that now I essentially have six full-sized rack units with a "J"-shaped footprint. (One side is three units long against a side wall and to the corner of the room, with the third unit sharing one front corner pole with the fourth unit against the back wall, at a right angle to the first three. This fourth unit shares its other front corner pole with the fifth unit, which is set at a right angle to the fourth (parallel to the first three units) and extends ("free-standing") back into the room, sharing two end poles with the sixth unit. By connecting the units at right angles, all of the racks are more sturdy, and even the two units that are free-standing, and not against a wall, are very sturdy and cannot be tipped over. Getting six full-sized DVD storage units for the price of only four units makes this product especially cost-effective, and I now have shelves leftover for expanding my DVD collection even further! ... show more

  • Perfect!
Color: Black Size: 8 Tier
Thanks to other reviewers who gave this positive feedback! This is exactly what I was looking for. Just the right size and well worth the cost, which I found to be about in the middle of the cases I was considering spending. None of the $20-30 cases seemed sturdy enough, and the $100 cases were either too big or too heavy. It's got good, solid, steel construction, very well made and finished. The only plastic I found is in the little snap together pieces that you place on the steel rods to hold the shelves, and while I might have preferred metal for those, as well as slightly deeper grooves on the rods to hold them in place, I think they are perfectly adequate for the job. I especially appreciated the adjustable feet that you simply turn to help level the unit, which turned out to be quite helpful in my case, as my floor slopes a bit. The directions were adequate, although it would have helped if they had mentioned that the little plastic shelf stoppers that you snap together, need to be oriented in the UP direction. Yes, there are little arrows on the plastic pieces, that do point up, and say, "TOP", but it's black on black, and I'm a bit older, so it was more difficult to see. Fortunately I did notice it, but it would have been nice to have it mentioned in the directions. However, that's a VERY minor quibble, and the media shelving went together EASILY in a bit over 30 minutes, with no tools. Seriously, it's not hard at all. I suppose the shelves could be considered adjustable, but you would have to raise the shelf, undo the plastic snap together shelf holders (not hard to do), repostion them, and then slide the shelf back down into place. By the way, it measures 24" wide by 6" deep by 49.5" inches tall (approx..... within 1/4"). Also, I'm using this for DVDs, and I found that I could only fit 6 shelves with the DVDs in place, but that's to be expected. The DVD cases fit nicely on the shelves, with about 1/4-1/2" of space between to top of the DVD case and the next shelf, so it's not difficult at all to remover or place the cases, it's just right. Also, because the front steel piece of the shelf is a tiny bit larger than the bottom supporting rods, it acts as a tiny bit of a lip, so the cases won't accidentally slide out, but it' not enough to cause any problem getting them in or out either....... again..... it's just right : ) So, it's all loaded up with DVD cases now, and feels quite sturdy. I didn't strap it to the wall, just raised the front feet a bit (using the leveling feature), and it's quite stable, even on my carpeted floor. Of course I don't have any small children running round either, and it's nice that they do include the stuff you need if you do want to secure it to the wall for safety purposes. Yes, I'd recommend this highly for a cost effective, solid, and nice looking way to hold DVD or CD cases. Thank you Maxsteel! ... show more
