  • excellent laptop

  • Worth Every Penny!
Style: RTX 4060 Set: 16GB | 1 TB
Waited until I used the laptop for a while before writing a review. So far, so good! It's been nearly a year now. I can't complain. The screen size and resolution is almost too good. The keyboard lights up when in use, just in case. Everything still works. It has never gotten to hot for my lap, it is quiet, and it seems to be durable so far but I'm also cautious to not drop it. Since I don't play video games, I can't speak to its capabilities. ... show more

  • Great laptop - impossible to find replacement parts & horrific cooling.
Style: RTX 4060 Set: 16GB | 1 TB
This laptop has been treating me well for the past year. It's fast, has a great screen, is lightweight, and has handled every game & AI application i've thrown at it. My only complaint: Finding replacement parts is damn-near impossible. One of the cooling fans failed due to pretty extreme 'fan wobble' and has a loud, horrible, droning noise. This happened (of course) within a week of the warranty expiring. I err on the side of DIY replacement parts, as I cannot send my laptop away for repairs due to work requirements - and I cannot for the life of me find a fan that fits this model (K6602VV) as a replacement. Service through authorized vendors (eg. microcenter) is a nightmare and has massive wait times. A real shame, given the laptop itself is great aside from the cooling issues and subsequent overheating. I've been contemplating this review for a while now, but i've been driven up a wall. If it wasn't for the complete lack of replacement parts available (which would likely fix the cooling issue with a simple drop-in new fan) it would be a five star. ... show more

  • Good computational power but can reach high temperatures
Very nice laptop. Very good for making fast computations. I just have to warn you that in the "best performance" mode, the motherboard can reach very high temperatures. If you want this laptop for its computational power, I really recommend that you also buy a cooling pad.

Style: RTX 4060 Set: 16GB | 1 TB
Very nice laptop. Gets a little hot for a laptop but there are solutions out there for that too. Has fan for CPU and a fan for the GPU to keep it cool. But you can hear the fans when under a full load or pushing the system hard. Isn't that what it supposed to do anyways? I am ok with that.

  • Dont Expect Much at All From Battery, Great Screen, Workhouse on Charger
This laptop is a mixed bag for me. For what I bought it for it is great. It has the power to handle heavy tasks, but I wouldn't recommend it for anything you need to do on the fly (on battery power). With many high powered laptops, the battery is always leaving you disappointed. I knew that going in, but I definitely had slightly higher expectations for battery power performance. Using ram intensive browsers like Google Chrome on battery power is a pain. Very choppy, laggy, etc. This is after 1 year of using it. However, on the charger, this thing is a beast for a 'Vivobook'. Awesome workhorse, can write and run scripts for coding assignments in Matlab, VSCode, and in the terminal with great speed. Can definitely play games, even at the high screen resolution. The screen is amazing, looks very sharp, colors are great, blue light is minimal. There are great options in the asus software for battery saving functionality and performance to squeeze more out of the battery, but really you'll only get a maximum of 2 hours of battery life, even at low brightness, minimal gpu usage, light internet browsing or watching a show. Pros: Slim, good build quality, screen is beautiful, can handle games like valorant, csgo, or other steam titles/indie titles with ease. Played a lot of Schedule I on this, handled it great. Handles matlab and VScode on the charger no issues. Very fast when plugged in, like a desktop computer. Glossy screen is very bright for an OLED, especially during the day. Much better than a non-oled matte screen as compared to other Asus models. Track pad is big, and very responsive. Lots of great features built in, sound is great, and very loud. The harmon kardon speakers are impressive. Ram upgrade is easy enough to DIY as well, even with minimal experience building computers I would say its easy enough. Cons: Battery life is non existent, better off going with something like a Macbook if you want to work on the fly with smaller chargers/charging blocks in my experience. Coil whine on mine can be annoying, but you learn to ignore it. Others around you might not be able to if the environment is quiet. Fans can get pretty loud, and when gaming the keyboard and charging block get very, very hot. Thermals are not too great when gaming, CPU definitely will hit 100C, but from my research, these intel cpus can handle those kinds of temperatures so its no biggie. Doesn't impact performance, but a cooling mat is highly recommended if you plan on gaming, and maybe some noise cancelling headphones. TLDR: great for working and gaming on the charger, dont expect to be portable or to have the ability to do much on battery power. laptop gets hot very hot to the touch as well as charging block, and can be noisy under load. USB-C charging is a joke, need ASUS charging block to actually charge it while using it. But can trickle charge with USB-C. ... show more

  • [UPDATE] SSD failed a month after warranty
UPDATED 1/5/2025: Began experiencing random blue screens and SSD not found around December. Ran a diagnostic and there are SMART errors from the SSD. Warranty expired on 11/25/2024. Dropping down to 2 stars. Original review. Software engineer here. I usually have a PC desktop and a Macbook laptop. Win11 is now comfortable for development, with powershell + WSL, so I decided to try a PC laptop after a few months of researching various models. This Vivobook is light and mobile which I preferred over a bulky desktop replacement. The charging brick is chunky, but if I need to be ultra mobile, both USB-C ports support Power Delivery for charging. Performance is very solid, got LLama2 + AWQ running in a Docker container on the RTX 4070 easy enough, alongside few other containers, VSCode, browser tabs, and the occasional Overwatch2 session. Fairly quiet in normal operation, but fans can definitely make themselves heard in performance mode. Temp is good too, has not gotten uncomfortable hot to hold in my lap. I was debating the OLED version, but went with this, no issues with the screen. Keyboard and trackpad are comfortable too, as is the whole laptop overall. I'm sticking to the stock 1TB SSD and 32Gb RAM for now, but might look into upgrading them down the line. ... show more
