  • Best thermals you can get for the $$.
Style: Graphic Card
This card has one of the best air coolers you can get in this price range. This thing runs cool and quiet and because of that leaves some headroom for tweaking. It is power limited so there's only so much you'll get, but it's a decent performance increase with very little to no noise associated with it like the other brands (I've tried most). No hint of coil whine either, which I found is usually associated with your PSU anyway. Runs good at stock speeds. Doesn't require extra tweaking to control temps, the factory fan curve is good. These 12gb variants are being discontinued, so if you don't want to wait for the 4k series and can get one at a decent price then go for it. ... show more

  • Cool and practical.
Style: Graphic Card
Honestly, a quality 3080 with inexpensive price point. Has all the performance you really need for modern gaming. It's temps are consistently low, the build quality is solid, and can easily support 4k gaming with high fps. It's not the most flashy but looks great regardless. Any other 3080 models or higher are redundant and expensive to buy unless you are an overclock enthusiast or need powerful workstations. ... show more

  • Great GPU
Style: Graphic Card
I kind of have buyer's remorse, but not because the card isn't good. I just feel guilty having such a nice GPU! I'm not an avid gamer; I game casually. I don't do any sort of media creation that demands a powerful GPU, and I don't mine. Why then did I buy a new card? I had a GTX 970 that worked well for my needs, albeit the card was old. With GPU prices having fallen the past year, and having recently built a new computer, I was interested in upgrading my GPU. Mostly just for the sake of upgrading. $800 still seems like a hefty price tag for a GPU, but my justification is that this is an excellent GPU and has "future proofed" me for another 8-10 years. So why did I buy it? The simple answer is this: the RTX 3080 is an excellent GPU and the time was right *for me* to upgrade now. So I did. I feel guilty, but it also feels great having one of the best graphics cards on the market. And it works splendidly. I debated between the 3080 and the 3070, as well as between the 3080 10GB and 12GB. The 10GB model is only a few dollars cheaper, so really why not spend the extra $20 to have the extra 2GB VRAM? The difficult decision came down to the 3070 vs the 3080. The 3080 is indisputably the "better" card, and so for the sake of tomorrow, I bought it today. The build quality on this ASUS card is great. I don't compare a lot of graphics cards, so I can't say much. There's some sag, but my case has an anti-sag bracket, so that's minimized in real world application for me, but better frame design on ASUS's part should have made this point irrelevant in the first place. I like the clean look of the card. The RGB is not a selling feature to me, but its minimalism is chic and fits my style. It was nicely packaged, easy to access, and without a lot of trash fillers stuffed in the box. All in all, this is a fabulous GPU and I recommend it. The price is high. It's up to you if it's worth paying for or not. ... show more

  • A beast that keeps its cool
Style: Graphic Card
I went with this Asus 3080 for 2 main reasons: 1) it's one of the only 3080s I could find with an additional HDMI, and I like the option for my legacy displays rather than hunting for converter cables, aside from the 5 inputs being nice to have anyway, especially for VR owners. 2) Keeping with Asus helps things play nice, for example with my motherboard and its software that manages temperatures. However, it exceeded my expectations in other areas too. It stays relatively cool for such a high end card. Maybe 5-10 degrees warmer than my old 1060 was, and that's a very small temperature impact considering the performance boost you get in return. The build quality is also outstanding. I didn't mind having to buy a $10 support bracket if it means having a card that would survive an apocalypse. The "TUF" in the name is no joke! It's also quiet as a mouse, pretty impressive for a beast like this, which tells me their product lives up to their advertised features. It barely breaks a sweat under load. Perhaps the only downside of its exceptional cooling is that it has made the other components in my build about 5-10 degrees warmer as well. It's sort of the price you pay by keeping the card so cool. However it's nothing some fan upgrading or motherboard software tweaks can't help mitigate. ... show more
