  • Well-constructed, comfortable as a hiking boot
Size: 9.5 Color: Truffle/Stone
I've got this same boot in another color that I've had several years and it's lasted well---though looking more beat-up and dirty, so I got another pair that now looks better. These boots are made for hiking. Part of what that means is they're not padded like typical consumer shoes so they're not cushy/squishy. They shouldn't be, since that saps energy, adds weight, and inhibits breathability throughout the boot. I normally wear wool socks with these boots as this adds a touch of padding while maintaining breathability, and real wool tends to help in staying either warm or cool to better regulate temperature. I haven't had either pair of boots delaminate or detach in sole or upper leather bits and the stitching is in good shape. As with all boots, I recommend trying them out in-person to get the best fit. I purchased my first pair at REI, and was able to get this second pair here on Amazon by simply ordering the same size I knew fit me---saving about four hours of driving. ... show more

  • Possibly the best light hiker out there, Edit
Size: 12 Wide Color: Wool/Black
Let me preface my review by saying I have been living, working, and playing in light hiking boots for nearly my whole life (56 years), starting with lowa and raichle boots in the ‘70s and ‘80s. I have worn and worn out many different brands. Today many boots last me only a few months or a few weeks before falling apart; the worst offenders of late are Salomon and Danner. Now, I have only had these Asolos for a couple of weeks but they are, right out of the box the most comfortable boots of this type I’ve ever worn. The fit is perfect ( 12, EE). The lacing system allows precise adjustment depending on the thickness of your socks. I’ve snowshoed in them for several miles with zero issues and wear them every day to work (I’m a carpenter and am on my feet most of the day). The styling is sharp, garnering compliments wherever I go. The build quality of this boot appears very good; much better than similarly priced boots. The tongue folds in nice and neat without bunching up or pinching like some other brands. No fancy lacing system here; just simple metal eyes and hooks and paracord laces. The gore tex booties do their job well, no leaks so far. The true test will be the test of time; more reviews to follow. Edit; glad to see that Asolo is still manufactured in Romania just like my old Asolo boots. Lots of companies are outsourcing to southeast Asia nowadays. I have never owned a boot made in southeast Asia that lasted more than 6 months. Buy your Nikes and Adidas from those folks; I’ll let the europeans build my boots. ... show more

  • Overall very good
Size: 8.5 Color: Wool/Black
At first they feel extremely stiff like a ski boot, and also seem too loose because the material is so stiff and doesn't lace tight right away. But bear with them, they break in extremely fast. After the break-in period they fit snug and give excellent support. They also look great.

  • Decent for linework / can be hard on your feet
Size: 11 Color: Wool/Black
This is my second pair of fugitives. The first lasted me over a year in linework, which to me means a lot considering most boots (of various brands and styles) wear out in 6 months. These boots are in the mud, water, kicked around and used on ladders and gaffs, they’ve held up quite well. The sole lasted longer than the waterproofing but that was still about a year of daily use. Being that the sole is a tougher/harder rubber, my feet do get sore in them after a tough day but it’s a decent trade off for the longevity of the boot. My only other gripe about them is linework specific; the arch of the sole has a soft swoop to it with not much of a heal to catch so my gaffs do slide around a little bit, but these boots weren’t specifically made for that so I can live with it ... show more

  • Flexible not Rigid Sole if that is what you are looking for...overall solid boot
Size: 9.5 Wide Color: Wool/Black
I bought these hoping to get a "rigid sole" hiking boot because I don't want flex in my metatarsal area due to some minor foot complications. These did not fit the bill, the sole is very flexible. I normally wear a 9.5 in Asolo but, have always thought they felt a little tight in the toebox, I ordered the "wide" 9.5 and it fits my foot much better! So you are looking for a wider fit and flexible sole this is a great boot! ... I have spoken ... show more

  • Fine, well constructed, and durable boots
Size: 11.5 Color: Wool/Black
This is my second pair of these boots, however, in the first pair the soles delaminated catastrophically in the first 90 days. I contacted Asolo and they confessed that there were major problems with the adhesive on several "batches" of the boots. The problem for me was that I loved the fit of these boots so much that I was willing to take the risk on a second pair, on the advice from Asolo that the delimitation issues had been corrected. I have owned this second pair for about 90 days, with over 200 miles on them, and have not seen any delimitation to date. Further, I need to share that I owned a previous pair of Asolo's for about 22 years and they performed in all climates and conditions with absolutely no failures. Best boots I have ever owned! ... show more
