This product works well and gets the kayak up and out of the way. I have found that depending on kayak width, the selection of spacing becomes more critical. The wider the kayak the more narrow the spacing.

    • Doesn't come with a retaining strap to keep the lift straps at set distance.
you need to add a cord or something to keep the straps from slipping off the kayak and dropping it to the floor. If I had realized that, I would have installed the pulleys a little closer together. Just add a cord or line between the two slings/straps for lifting the kayak and they work OK. I used fishing line to tie between the straps, and tie each strap to the kayak. I have an Ascend FS10. the shape of the kayak seems to help the lift straps to slip off. I also tie each lift strap to the line cleats on my kayak. ... show more

Used to hang sit-on-top kayak from garage ceiling. The supplied straps didn't seem secure to me; used some contraptions made from PVC and paracord through the 2 front and 2 back scupper holes around the hooks instead. If you aren't at least 1 on a 5 scale handy, likely you aren't going to be putting this up anyway, so no biggie to get a little bit creative to complete your project -- if necessary. ... show more

The unit came as described, and as a budget solution seems reasonably well built for the simple mechanics it provides. The instructions were ineffective, so a couple YouTube videos to determine how to correctly set up made all the difference. Only complaint is after 5 uses, the rope has frayed (see photo). possibly a defect in the rope, but one that causes problems nonetheless. ... show more

    • Works like a champ, be mindful of orientation when installing.
I use this to store my ski cargo box. It's perfect for the job. Be mindful of the orientation of the brackets when you install into the roof rafters, it makes a difference which side the square holes are on. The rope that shipped with mine had a strand that was severed in the middle. It looks like it is a manufacturing defect of the rope where one of the strands ran out on the spool and another was added without splicing. It should be OK since it's just one strand but make sure you inspect your rope too. ... show more
