Features

  • Playability: KeyStep mk2 features a velocity-sensitive 32-note Slimkey keyboard with aftertouch for expressive control in a small footprint. Pitch and mod strips provide intuitive realtime shaping, while built-in chord and scale modes make new musical phrases effortlessly explorable.
  • Ideas machine: KeyStep mk2 is a generative ideas machine as much as a controller, with its polyphonic step sequencer, 16-mode arpeggiator, pattern chaining, and creative tools like mutate all working in symbiosis. Build a riff with the arpeggiator, convert it into a sequence then transform it! Use Mutate to hear new variations on the fly, try a different octave, adjust note lengths, add silences, overdub additional notes, record Bend and Wheel automations - keep ideas evolving with immediacy.
  • Compact design: Ultra-slim, travel-ready, and built to fit anywhere - KeyStep mk2 delivers studio-grade features without the bulk. Its shallow profile keeps you close to the instruments youre controlling, while its intuitive layout enhances playability and seamless integration on stage, in the studio, or at the heart of a hardware rig.
  • Hardware connectivity: Hook up to virtually anything. Alongside USB-C MIDI, MIDI DIN, sync I/O, and pedal input, KeyStep mk2 features 4 CV outputs - Pitch, Gate, Mod 1, and the new Mod 2 - now configurable as velocity, aftertouch, mod wheel, and more, ready to control modular hardware gear with expressive precision.

  • It's only g.a.s. if you buy two
Get this yesterday if you've been stuck mashing with 25 key Midi controllers and synthesizers because you're not an "actual" keyboard player. You'll quickly find that the 7 extra keys are just enough to avoid sounding stale without changing octaves. The size is complimentary to most tetris arrangements. Everything that you've learned so far will roll onto these keys with ease as they are what I would call "jumbo mini" keys. This my first experience with aftertouch- it unlocks creative expression where a strings player would expect it. Changing midi channels is simple and the arp/sequencer is well labeled. Mutate button mutates- I could mistake it for rolling spice and dice on the Microfreak. I personally don't find extensive use of arps in my workflow but they sound good and are superior to many others. Arturia always makes gig/studio grade equipment with the active musician in mind. With those standards, they could add visible jack labels to a machine that pulls off a double helix light show while mutating. ... show more

Terrible quality keys though everything else was really impressive for the price but the keys weren't for me

  • Experience could have been a bit better
The unit is fine, but the packaging went through hell to protect it. Not sure why the product's box was simply wrapped in paper and not placed inside another box to provide additional protection.

  • Welcomed update to the keystep
The item arrived lot earlier than expected, box was slightly damaged but everything works just as it should. The key step MK2 has improved and welcomed features from other Arturia keyboards & synths, however, the build quality is lighter plastic; feeling quite hollow compared to the previous version. The keys are excellent though. In terms of functionality, it does what it should with hardware, sometimes midi doesn’t work in ableton. ... show more
