This book is a pretty extensive exploration of light, covering both the creative/artistic aspects of light on image, as well as the technical aspects of photography. The author writes with vivid, poetic language, so this book feels like it sits between an artistic exploration and a textbook. However, the major drawback for me was the lack of images in this book. I am familiar with photography so i know what he is talking about, but I can see a beginner would be lost and unable to visualize a lot of the points explained here. I understand the power of description, but I don't think that's appropriate here. Otherwise would be a really good book. Hope the author considers releasing it with images in the future. ... show more

The art of being able to light your subject in photography is such a wonderful thing to know. It makes a world of difference! This book has so much informative data on lighting and it's written in a way that it is easy to understand and keeps the reader engaged. I highly recommend!

Very useful and detailed manual, certainly a great add to any photographer's bag, as lighting can often be under-appreciated in photography. I gave this book four stars, rather than five mainly due to there being ZERO visual aids, I'm not sure I've ever seen a book on photography without any examples. In my opinion a second edition with examples showing the tips and techniques in the book would be a great addition. ... show more
