  • The Gold Standard
Format: Kindle
This is by far the gold standard of D850 guides. The D850 is the most complex camera I have ever owned - after using film cameras for many years, I started digital photography with the D40, and have progressed upward as Nikon has improved their products, with the D750 being my most recent. The D850 is an order of magnitude more complex, with capabilities I never dreamed of in my more than 50 years of photography. I purchased a different book to help me with the D850, and was disappointed in the level of explanation it provided. I had some experience with David Busch's books in the past, so I bought the Kindle version when it became available. This is an excellent book, and I recommend it highly. Not only does it provide very good detailed advice on the various settings, and the best ways of utilizing the camera under differing circumstances, it also provides a great deal of explanation of many of the finer points of digital camera design and engineering. Understanding some of these things has helped me be a better photographer. ... show more

Format: Paperback
As a new guy to top of the line DSLR's this has been a gift from the God's. It is well written and in a format us old guys can understand. I am so glad I found it. It has made the move to my new camera much better. A must have for amateurs

  • Great. However, seems to lack "Negative Digitizer" function information. Did I miss it somehow?
Format: Paperback
David's books (I currently own the D750, D4s and D850 books) are usually very complete. However, as I contemplate purchasing the Nikon ES-2 to convert some slide I cannot find anything regarding the Nikon Negative Digitizer capability of the D850 in his Nikon D850 book? Other than that , a great reference book for the D850. 4\15\2018 I did finally find a small paragraph on the Negative Digitizer capability on page 476 in David's book. I should add however, that I would have liked to see a little more explanation of how it is used. I can understand there may be limited interest in this feature but it is new and I believe it my be that other cameras do not have this feature. It's limited discussion should in no way cause anyone to having doubts about purchasing this valuable guide. ... show more

  • As usual, David Busch provides us with the go-to guide for this new camera
Format: Paperback
Once again, David Busch has provided us with his insight and wisdom on this newest Nikon offering. I have had Busch's manuals for the other Nikon cameras I have owned and this volume does not disappoint. I am pleased that he has removed basic photography information that I found in his past manuals. In the D850 guide he has focused on the camera -- a change that I support. Someone here requested that an author -- maybe David -- hone in on a "What's New" volume. Nikon has really provided us with a boatload of nifty new features and options with the D850 and I would love for a book that delves into these exclusively. It might be that David could define a "fast track" through this volume that would take us through the book chapter by chapter with indications of what is new for this area, have any controls/menus changed, has David changed any of his usual recommendations based on a new feature, and so forth. Overall, David is the source I turn to whenever I have purchased a new Nikon digital camera. I embrace his clarity and writing style. He is my go-to guy when my camera does something strange, or when the result was not what I intended. Almost always I can find what I am looking for in his guide. My only, very minor, complaint concerns the index. I found it to be a bit less complete or robust as his previous books. The index is absolutely essential in books of this sort and a more thorough one is always welcome! Thank you, David, for exceeding my expectations with this volume. I can certainly recommend this book as the one you need to purchase if this new camera has made it's way into your life! ... show more

  • Best Book For Using Your Camera !
Format: Paperback
Great Book !! I have his books for several of my Nikon cameras. So much more information than the owners manual.

  • Great manual for the Nikon D850.
Format: Paperback
The author is a veteran Nikon user and expert. He covers just about everything I could want to know, and in a readable conversational style. There are sections for novices that Nikon vets can skip. I liked his comments covering many of the Nikkor lenses one might be tempted to purchase. The manual is HEAVY. That’s why it is complete! I also have the official Nikon D850 manual (it is worth having as well) but this “third party” is well worth the price in my opinion. ... show more

  • To the point guide to a complex camera that makes it easier to set up and use
Format: Kindle
Excellent guide to a complex camera that focuses on the operation of the camera, rather than extraneous material about photography that could apply to almost any camera. This stays on point and is logically organized. David also explains the options and suggests why one is better than another in clear, easy to follow language. The Nikon manual is very hard to follow. If you have a D850, you need this book. Better yet, put it on a mobile device or tablet to use in the field. ... show more
