    • Perfect for big wrists!
My husband has BIG wrists, so he always needs one that has the velcro strap. It's rare for us to find a normal watch band with notches that fits him, so we always go with these. If you are familiar with the velcro style of watch strap, then you know they aren't all the same. Well, I didn't until he showed me what he meant, but now I know what he means. We were looking for one that had more of the "fuzzy" side for it to stick to, and the one he was wearing had a lot more of the stiff side, rather than the fuzzy side. Face is smaller than it appears. Not as easy to read as expected. Otherwise. It is a watch. it works as expected. Just no month showing far as I can see.

    • A good watch for the money
I had a need for a watch with a good display for nighttime walks. I considered getting another Timex because I love INDIGLO, but decided I didn't want to have to replace the watch in a few years when the strap broke. This Armitron watch has an easily replaceable velcro strap. I liked the large display and checked out the illumination feature at the local WalMart and found it easily to be the equal of INDIGLO or the Casio equivalent. As I said I saw a similar model to this at WalMart and decided to take a chance on the watch. Setting the watch was a little difficult. The instructions for the watch were somehow sealed in the hard plastic stand the watch came with. I couldn't get to the instructions so I spent some time noodling how to program the watch. Eventually I figured it out (it's different than setting a Timex). I set the watch when I received it to the Atomic Clock reference and it's still accurate to this day. I figure this watch will easily be accurate to within 1 minute of the Atomic Clock by the end of the year, which isn't a bad deal for a cheap digital watch. Plus the watch looks pretty good in my opinion. The watch was delivered promptly, kudos to Amazon customer service for a great job. I'm docking my rating 1 star because of the instruction manual issue, but otherwise I'm very happy so far with my purchase. ... show more

    • Functional watch, but too-easy-to-press buttons are dealbreaker
This is not a bad watch and there are some things I really like about it, but the unprotected buttons and the cycle for changing modes are dealbreakers for me. A very acceptable alternative (in my opinion) is the Armitron Sport Men's 406623, which has many similar features and qualities, but has protected side buttons and different modes mapped to different buttons. For this watch (40/8291): Pros: 1. Velcro wrist band. I like this for sport applications for running because it can be perfectly adjusted to my wrist so as not to constrict and not to bounce around. I also like the feel of the cloth as opposed so a sweaty plastic wristband. 2. Nice qualities (waterproof, illumination, stopwatch, etc) for the price. Cons: 1. The side buttons do not have protectors and are very prone to accidental pressing. I have started/stopped my stopwatch accidentally many times, ruining my pace calculation for entire runs. This alone is a dealbreaker for me. 2. This watch has four modes and you must cycle through all of them using only one button (unlike other watches, where multiple buttons can be used to access different modes). This is highly inconvenient when you are doing something active like running and do not have extra time and attention to devote to making sure you are on the correct mode. I have improperly started or stopped my stopwatch many times by accidentally cycling to the wrong mode. Adding insult to injury, not only does this watch map all modes to a single button, but it also adds a fifth button on the face for illumination, which is identical in function to one of the side buttons. ... show more
