This watch might be exactly like the one I had in the 80s. I didn't have that one long as I was a soldier and destroyed it rather quickly. Always remembered how cool i thought it was back then but never replaced it because I needed a tank of a watch. Now, I'm an office worker with a watch that brings back great memories. Currently loving this watch. It's what I wish all of my Casios were. Stainless steel case, 50m water resistance, okay bracelet. I haven't even worn any of my significantly more expensive Swiss or Japanese automatics since getting this watch. After about a week the bracelet quit pulling the copious amounts of hair on my 7.5" wrist. I'm not sure why because the bracelet couldn't have broken in that quickly but regardless, doesn't pull hair like all of my Casios. I wish the bracelet had a bit more taper for aesthetics but the look is growing on me. I've only tested water resistance at very shallow depths but have had zero issues. Going to buy a second one just to have as a spare in case I lose this one. Great move by Armitron releasing a small retro digital that actually has a steel case, and it costs less than a dinner. I wish the rest of the watch industry would follow suit. Couldn't be happier with it. ... show more

Finally I found a retro style digital quartz watch in full stainless steel. It has the right aesthetic from the era and feels solid and has a nice finish. The rear light is exactly as it was over forty years ago, i.e. just as bad, but I honestly don't think there's anything to complain about when you're in the market for a retro-inspired, most authentic experience, so both size and rear light are just right as it was and gives the watch the authentic expression it should have. I don't know how the follow-up of these watches is, but I bought three Armitrons, and one of them had a push button fall off when I put the watch on. ... show more

There is also solid stainless steel here. If you are looking for the good watch feeling from back in those days, you have it here.

Like others have said - the backlight is more for amusement than function. Absolutely can't see the time in the dark. The second timezone is only a temporary display - it reverts back in 30 seconds. The Armitron 40/8474 Retro Digital Watch ("Rubik") looks almost similar to my Casio W-35 from 1982/83. The display (19*9mm) is smaller than the W-35 (19*11mm). The back light is, if possible, even worse than on the W-35. On the W-35 you can see hours and minutes using the back light, on the Armitron you can see hours and perhaps the first digit of the minutes. The watch and bracelet can be fitted to my 210mm wrist with the sliding clasp in the outermost position. Overall, I'm satisfied with the watch, for which I paid numerically the same as I paid for the W-35 (ie, without factoring in inflation).
