I absolutely love the range of colors that you get in this set and it is absolutely cheaper to buy these in sets rather than individually. I bought one pan only to make sure I liked it then invested in this portrait set with all the tools to use them sold by the same company. There is such a full range of colors in this set, you may only find yourself needing 2-3 other colors to have a complete collection of colors for portrait work. I definitely recommend using paper made especially for pastels (which come in a variety of colors and textures). I have not bought a spray fixative yet so I can't recommend a good one for use with these pastels. The little sponge tools make them very easy to use and less messy than actually holding the chalk. One in the set arrived that was crushed to pieces inside but Amazon customer service issued me a refund for the equivalent of one pan so I could buy a replacement and that arrived just fine. Amazon really needs to do a better job of shipping art supplies covered in bubblewrap, protective packaging materials etc. ... show more

GREAT product. Its why its worth the price tag. 12 arrived completely shattered, down to the pan ("hitting pan" is a term in the make up world to describe that the product was used so much, you hit the bottom of the container) and I repaired them with a cup of rubbing alcohol, but lost a day of working with it. I took the photo, called Amazon, and they made it right. Amazon is worth EVERY penny to be a Prime member! No hassle, kind words, and appropriate action. If only there was an Amazon customer service for life's troubles...we'd all be in a better place for sure. ... show more

    • Good product but arrived damaged
A majority of the pastel pans arrived damaged which was not surprising as they travelled from the US to New Zealand. I worked out to remedy the situation with isopropyl alcohol but it took a bit of time & they don't look perfect. I am however, impressed how quickly they got to New Zealand and I am very much enjoying using the pan pastels. They are great for doing portraits. ... show more

Oh- I can't say enough good things about these lovely pastels! They glide on smoothly (the only thing to watch out for is don't be heavey handed because you will fill the tooth of the paper quickly). I have done so many backgrounds, and faces with these-and I can't wait till I can afford to get the big set-the 80 colours! Lovely assortment of colours in this set-from light skin tones to shading-and usable, as I said, in other parts of paintings as well! These are a great buy! ... show more

My first delivery of this came with broken pallets due to the way it was poorly packaged but I returned that for a replacement requesting better shipping and received the 2nd order with no broken ones. The product itself is of very high quality, works as intended, colors are fantastic, blendable, workable; as expected, you can work with a small amount of the powder at a time or more but a little goes a long way. These pans will last a long time because of how rich and spreadable they are. ... show more
