The tool box does not include a gasket on the lid. I would not count on it to be weatherproof. The welds along the bottom are very inconsistent. They range from almost non-existent to large blobs. I actually waited until night time to try shining a light at the edge because I couldn't tell there was a full weld there. It may work ok now, but long term quality is suspect. The latch design allows the latch to pivot if it loosens. Mine had an improperly installed lock washer (photo) that would allow it to pivot and come open either by vibration on the trailer or at the hands of a thief. The latch has another issue in that it sticks out too far and rubs on the edge of the box while opening and closing. It actually has enough friction to stop the lid from opening. The gas spring is very strong. Allowing the lid to open under full force almost flings it over on the flat floor. I wonder if the extra strength spring is a bandaid for the interference between the latch and the tool box opening... The lid has a large force distributing plate which could be a good thing because it will prevent that crazy strong spring from damaging anything. For me, I want more vertical space and the large spring will only allow me to place my gas can in at the pictures angle. The advertised specs are there but their usability is limited by the large plate on the lid if you intend to store items that are close to the expected dimensions. The local Lowes had a Craftsman trailer box for sale for just a little more. After inspecting and playing with the Craftsman box I opted to get one and return the Arksen box. The initial quality is marginal and does not inspire confidence. By the time I add a gasket and fix the latch I would be looking at spending time and money that would be worth the upgrade to the Craftsman box but still wouldn't have addressed the other quality concerns. I am giving it two stars rather than one because while the long term quality is highly suspect, everything apparently works ok (if slightly poorly) while testing it in the garage. I think there are better deals available like the Craftsman box. UPDATE: Bumping from 2 stars to 4 stars for the resolution they provided me. I wound up returning the craftsman box and fixing the issues I had with the Arksen box. I was able to fold over the slight excess on the latch to prevent it from twisting and I bought some weather stripping and tried to apply it similar to how the Craftsman tool box. The welds do make me a little nervous because I know my trailer has quite a bit of flex underway with bumps and uneven loads, but I will keep an eye on those and update if they ever fail. The way the box is designed the failure shouldn't be catastrophic if it ever happens, and with the deal Arksen gave me I honestly can't complain if it doesn't last a very long time. Worked very nice for my application. I added 1/4 seal to the lid. The aluminum is a little thin, but the cost/value absolutely can not be beat, unless you want to shell out 3 times the cost.

Seems fairly well constructed.. Screwed into the A-frame.. Do not yet know if it will hold up to either being bumped or air pressure, winds once it is in-tow.. Bottom plate should be a higher level of thickness or reinforced more..?

It is thin aluminum but it is fully welded and rigid. I'd recommend a liner in the bottom and a top door seal. It showed up in very good shape. It's worth the price to add a few things. Others are twice the price.

The box is sturdy and the finished is good. When I received the box the rivets on the lid hinges were popped out and the lid was not fastened. The box is a good design except for the way the attach the hinges. They need to think a more on how to secure the hinges to the lid and box. Rather than returning the product I repaired the hinges myself because I like the box overall. Could only give 3 star because of the way the hinges were mounted. ... show more

The box was packaged well and arrived without damage. It was made from thinner material but appears to be adequate for my use, thicker boxes are available but would cost up to twice as much. I followed the advice of other reviewers and lined the bottom with cut plywood, this should help avoid damage from heavy items. It did not have a weatherproof gasket on the lid, I thought this should have been included. I had some adhesive material on hand and added a seal to the lid.
