  • Great for electronics soldering
Got this one for my electronics hobby bench. With eight contact points it holds round and odd shaped electronic components steady for soldering without damaging them with too much pressure. Perfect size. Can also fit onto a larger flat jawed vise. Make sure you get one with adjustable screws like this one so you can adjust the swing friction of each section. Had a cheaper non-adjustable one but it kept binding. ... show more

  • Set your depth
Very nice vice for clamping any workpiece shape. The only thing to keep in mind is the adjusting screw is probably going to be directly under the drill bit, so adjust the depth accordingly. The vice works best for small pieces that cannot be easily held with a typical vice. It’s made from heavy enough material so that it is both stable and feels like it’ll hold up to a lot of use. I haven’t had the drill bit grab the workpiece yet, so I’m not sure how well the clamping jaws will hold up to excessive force, but so far it has worked well. ... show more

  • Stay Tuned for “ARKNOAH Vice” [FOUR STARS]
No, this is not a new crime drama streaming on Prime. I’m talking about a literal VISE... distributed by the “ARKNOAH Store.” There are several distinguishing features of this product: First, it has no provisions for mounting it to a bench, drill-press, or anything else. It’s intended for use directly on the workbench/tabletop. The frame is heavy and the underside features a black rubber-like material that grips slick surfaces to prevent slipping/sliding while you work. The jaws are unusual--a simplified version of a mechanism some called a “fractal” jaw. Fractal jaws are compliant and have the ability to clamp and hold irregularly-shaped objects. As any child with a new toy might, I spent some time experimenting with this product and was pleasantly surprised at its jaw’s adaptability. It occurs to me there may be scenarios where it would be beneficial to glue some leather or rubber strips on the gripping surfaces, but “your mileage may vary.” As is typical, the jaws are drawn closed with a jackscrew. The screw is driven with a sliding T-handle fitted to a knurled, cylindrical, head on the screw. All vise screws have some backlash, but the slop in this one is minimal. For what it’s worth, the placement of the screw and its handle is such that the the vice can only be opened/closed if (a) it’s situated such that the T-handle hangs off the edge of the bench or (b) the entire vice is lifted and manipulated in-air. Given that this tool is obviously intended for small/fine work, neither is a surprise nor drawback. I should also add that there is an option (c): You can remove the T-handle completely, and work the screw by manipulating its knurled head, directly. It goes without saying that you won’t be able to apply as much clamping force, however. What do you use this thing for? I’d say Any task that requires you to be able to grip and work on small, irregularly-shaped objects. Model-making, wood carving, and jewelry work come to mind. This device might also be useful for holding work while hand-graving small objects. I won’t pretend that the hundred-and-sixty-buck price-point isn’t painful, but this is arguably a quality product. If you have sufficient disposable green and think it beneficial to whatever project you’re into, I believe you will be satisfied with it. I also think it’ll last long enough to be inherited by your ungrateful kids. ... show more

  • It's quite lovely.
This vise from the ARKNOAH Store arrived in an Amazon bubble envelope, and inside a nicely printed box with graphics of the contents and legends such as "Heavy Duty Fractal Vise -- Grip the Unholdable" which shows a certain amount of pride in the contents. Unfortunately, because the Amazon bubble envelope was inadequate, the box was damaged, making it less valuable in a gift giving scenario. But this is not a review of Amazon's poor choice of shipping containers (less material = less protection), it's a review of the product inside. The Heavy Duty Fractal Vise seems heavy for its size, which is good. The major parts are powder coated aluminum, and the movable jaws are a non-magnetic stainless-steel. All the machining is absolutely first class. The lead screw has fine Acme threads, with a knurled shoulder, and a removable tommy bar. I could find no flaws in any of the vise parts, including the articulating jaws. I tries several oddly shaped things, and the vise held the items quite well. Sitting here on my desk, it almost looks like a piece of jewelry. ... show more

  • Great vice
I do a lot of 3d printing and working on small objects. This vice is great for those small, weird shapes. I like that the vice is smaller while still being really well made and sturdy. The grips move freely with no friction on them. This is really well made vice that does a great job. I recommend it if you are looking for a way to hold small weird objects! ... show more

  • Perfect for clamping small, irregular shaped objects
This is an amazing little vice clamp for the cost. If you’re into small scale woodworking or other type of crafting this vice will come in handy for holding small, irregular shaped objects in place. The jaws adapt to the object and the operation of the screw and jaw sliders is very smooth. It also has a non-skid bottom to keep it from sliding. The vice weights about 2 pounds and is constructed very well. The price is a fraction of what you would pay for other vices in this class. Great product. ... show more
