I had one welding project, the repair of the feed chute on my 30 year old chipper shredder. A replacement chute would cost $185. I spent a lot less than that on this ARCCAPTAIN 130A welder and automatic darkening helmet. I had tried a solidox gas welder several decades ago without much success, and that was my only previous welding experience. My first concern was that the welder would draw too much current and trip the circuit breaker. When MIG welding at a setting of about 65 with 0.035 flux core wire, my welder draws less than 12 amps, so, not a problem. Even at the lightest setting, the ARCCAPTAIN helmet was too dark for me to see the weld clearly. I waited for a very sunny day and that helped. On the plus side, the response time was quick and my eyes felt very safe. I practiced a bit on a piece of EMT to get a feel for the process and then tried my hand at welding the broken seams on the chute. The result was some of the ugliest welds I’ve ever seen! I cleaned them up with a wire wheel and angle grinder, filed them down a bit, and rewelded all the spots that looked a little weak. In less than two hours, I had mended the broken base plate, reattached it to the chute, and welded 3-4 feet of seams along the chute. I think the result was a stronger chute than new. The whole process has been so much fun that I’ve been hoping that something else metallic will break. The welder intentionally has limited adjustability, but that was fine for a rank amateur like me. It is easy to use. The wire feed worked without a hitch. If I never use it again it has already saved me more than it cost. I plan to use up the rest of the wire role on practicing stacking that ‘roll of dimes’. There are much more capable welders out there, but they’re expensive, heavy and bulky, and it’s unlikely I’ll ever develop the need or skill to use them. If I can weld with this machine, so could you.

Awesome welder. You must use it on the 220 amp hookup. The 110amp side will trip the breaker and starts too cold. I use the 1/8 welding rods on 120 working amps. When trying the 3/32 rods on 110amps it still tripped the breaker. The insulators on the holder are not high quality. You will want to get a better insulator for it.

To preface, I have no official training in welding. Just my own experience and online resources. I already owned a bargain basement HF wire feed machine for flux core, and an old Lincoln 225 buzz box for stick. I was hoping to consolidate into one machine and get a better performing wire feed MIG set up. So far this seems to be just that. Much more control on the settings for MIG and plenty of power for my stick welding needs. While I still use flux core wire, I now have the future ability to utilize shielding gas, as well as the ability to weld aluminum and TIG, with additional accessory purchases. Speaking of accessories that come with this unit I can label them as mostly adequate. It would be nice if it came with a knurled wire feed roller instead of just the v groove roller for solid wire. The 220 to 110 adapter is nice if you don't have 220 available (I have only used 220 so far). The power cord seems a bit short, so expect to purchase an extension cord of adequate gauge. I cannot speak to the TIG or spool gun function, as I have yet to obtain those accessories. Overall, this looks to be a good unit for the price. I feel I have upgraded from a metaphorical 8 count box of fat crayons to the 64 count box with the sharpener on the back. My skill level is limited, so I can't say how this stacks up against a more expensive professional unit, but it should more than meet my needs

After watching a bunch of YouTube videos, I decided to buy this welder. I've only welded once (many years ago) so I had no idea what I was doing. This welder is extremely easy to setup, easy to adjust, and lays down some pretty nice welds. I also bought an ARCCAPTAIN welding helmet, which I am also very pleased with. Unbelievable welder for the price.
