First of all, my apologies since English is just my second language. Second, please take into account my own level regarding DAW software: I'm just a hobbyst. I began a few weeks ago by trying several softs before getting to Logic Pro 9. I decided to buy Logic Pro because of my previous experience with GarageBand. After getting Logic Pro 9 first thing I could appreciate was that it was completely different from GarageBand. I mean much, but MUCH more complex! I was going from here to there in order to get all kind of tutorials, both video and written ones, without any success at all (they did not accomplished their proposal at least for me). Finally, I got a sample from the book "Apple Pro Training Series: Logic Pro 9 and Logic Express 9" by David Nahmani. By just reading the first chapter and completing the corresponding exercise I was completely aware that it was the kind of book I was looking for: detailed, clearly explained, results completely agreeing with the book figures and views, concise, and so on (just read the many comprehensive reviews in this site). My first concern was to get it as soon as possible, i.e. the e-book version was by far the better one for me, being a foreigner living outside the US. However, there was a big problem: this book is highly dependent on the additional contents that come with it as a DVD with the paper version of the book. The electronic version just make a little warn by noting that a link to a web place in the back of the final part of the book would allow the buyer to get the same content as the printed version. By quickly reading the only few adverse reviews of the book, all of them were related to the point of another buyers being not able of downloading any file at all. Really a difficult decision to do: to got right now the e-book version and eventually get the DVD content, or to buy the printed version and wait at least a couple of weeks for the book and the DVD to arrive to my home (do not forget the shipping price, almost $25 additional bucks for an expedited way of shipping). Well, to make it short: by tossing a coin I decided to buy the e-book version. With my heart beating a little quicker than usual, I checked the web link, I tried it, and finally, believe or not, I got the thirteen files from Peachpit publisher's site in no time at all. A couple of hours for the almost 1.6 GB of additional contents! So, I highly recommend this book for any new comer to Logic Pro 9. Additionally, without leaving aside another reviewers opinions, my own experience downloading the accompanying files was really a premium one. And remember that you can always get your book back to Amazon and get the printed version if you are unlucky downloading the DVD content. So, get it now and start enjoying a great beginners book for Logic Pro 9!

All of the other 5 Star reviewers are correct. This book has it all, from a technical standpoint. If you are new to Logic, it is an absolute must. I'm VERY impressed at how quickly and succinctly the author teaches the fundamentals of using Logic. And the fundamentals are vast. Over 450 pages including a ton of information on MIDI recording, editing, programming, and hardware configuration. Well worth the price, even though I'm so used to getting books for cheap, cheap, cheap on Amazon, I actually hesitated for a minute to spend the $35 or so. Looking back, however, this is an absolute no brainer. A drop in the bucket compared to the immediate and overwhelming value of content made available here. Also, just a word to my fellow newbie, it turns out that the help tutorials in Logic are also VERY helpful. Probably not as helpful as this book, but definitely a great source for high level context. For instance, all I knew was that Logic was very robust and could likely "do it all," but was confused as to what that really meant. I watched a bunch of YouTube videos where guys are using synthesizers, bass synthesizers, MIDI sequencers, drum machines and more to create amazing music. Turns out, Logic contains its own digital version of each of the aforementioned components and more. So, all I really need to get started is a MIDI controller (or I can just use my computer keyboard), and then, in the event that I do buy a MIDI controller (which I will) or that I want to add guitars, vocals, etc., an audio interface. But I wouldn't have really known that without reading through the Help content in Logic. And I've only really scratched the surface. Yet, I was able to immediately surmise what I wanted to know about all the hardware components - and their digital manifestations in Logic - as well as some really awesome additional topics like History of the Synthesizer, and The Nature of Sound, etc. So, to recap, buy this book. But also, don't forget the inherent documentation in the software itself. Really worthwhile, both.

Well I just finished chapter 1 and i just moved from garage band to a world of professionalists (is that even a word? lol) but chapter one showed me the basic pictures, the main ideas, and a whole lot of shortcuts that will save you the composer time! Now everyones got to start somewhere Youtubing how to this and how to that isnt going to get you far well just frankly you cant ask them questions or just didnt meet the answer you were looking for... This book is my music bible right now and yess i hate reading but its exciting when you experience and thats exactly what this book does it makes it exciting and covers all fields, now if i could just figure out how to get my m-audio fast track pro on logic id be HELLA satisfied haha im a musician not a audio engineer but after this book i think ill be able to project my ideas further into the sea than i thought id be able to... This book is great 5 stars easy walk throughs, barney steps 1,2,3 and pictures lots and lots of pictures its great for hands on learners... 5 stars

Well I had it shipped all the way from the US here to my country because I got so intrigued with how good reviews this book has been constantly receiving. I am an aspiring R&B producer and my main digital audio workstation (or DAW) is Logic Pro 9. I have been self-studying Logic for three months and I have to say, it wasn't easy at all. All those tutorials I watched on the internet never really showed me a more detailed way of how things work over at Logic. So I have to have this book. The moment I received it, I was pretty excited to read it and study it. It was really easy to follow. The book had very detailed way of explaining Logic in a way that it was easy to understand. Some parts well I kind of skipped because I already know them, but some of the information I have always wanted to know that I could never find off the internet and other reference books, I found in this book. This book was very helpful in making me venture out on my music. By studying this book minute detail by minute detail, I began understanding how easy Logic is with proper knowledge acquisition which I got from this book alone. I highly recommend it to those who want to learn how to make music in Logic Pro and Logic Express 9. This is also a good read for those already know basics about Logic 9 since it will take you to a further understanding about Logic Pro 9. I am planning to get the advance music production version of this book sometime next week.

This is by far the most excellent resource for learning Logic. I've looked through dozens of YouTube tutorials, books, training modules, etc; but nothing provided the ease and straightforwardness that this book contains. I've had minor experience with MIDI programs, but like many, I was completely lost when I decided to pursue more in depth musical endeavors. When I first decided to dive into Logic, I was overwhelmed with the sheer complexity and depth of the program and felt completely lost. This book quickly alleviated the anxiety of feeling like I'd never learn this Logic well enough to use it efficiently. From chapter one, you dive straight into learning how to navigate the arrange window and media files, command keys, creating and saving projects, and arranging loops. Although arranging loops isn't the most creative activity; you still retain a sense of achievement and a small sense of comfort knowing that you still increased your Logic proficiency by 200%. The book is very clear and uncluttered. It provides you with very direct instructions as to what do do every step of the way, and yes, it has pictures. :-) I'd recommend this product to any and everyone trying to learn Logic for the first time.

I've been a Logic User since "the beginning" on my Atari ST, and I've reviewed the various iterations of this book over time since Apple bought the company from Emagic, Logic's initial German developer. As I've seen authorship of this book change with the version changes of the program, I've seen absolutely no drop off in the quality that initially led me to give Sitter's version of the training program (for version 6 or 7..can't remember which I reviewed off the top of my head) a glowing 5 star review. I make it a point to go through each page and every tutorial for each and every review I write, and while there are a few more typographical errors than I've seen before, and some differences in some keystrokes/menu choices later in the book that must've changed later in the "shipping version" of Logic 9, there is little to complain about here, except to wish for more! Each and every chapter gives one a VERY practical lesson in Logic's use that can benefit one's music production immediately. The book does a great job accenting the new features of Logic 9 while still covering all of the basic navigation (although I missed seeing chapters on setting up the workspace, environment, and setting up screensets---these were in the older books) and properties of the "core" program. And, DON'T skip out on this even if you're an experienced Logic user. Logic 9 is different enough and comes with enough new features to warrant spending a few hours with this book. While online video lessons seem to be all the rage (and I do find them useful on occasion), I still learn much better and more actively with book in hand and using interactive files. This format simply is the best method there is, and this goes for all of Apple's "official" certification series books. There is simply no better method for self-teaching these programs. OK, I'm ANXIOUSLY awaiting the "Advanced" version now to see how good it can be! HURRY UP with that, please! Would like to see some coverage of Mainstage in one of the books, as that part of Logic is a VALUABLE resource, for sure.

I hate having to learn how to use a new DAW system... its time consuming and frankly boring. So with out having to attend a course I searched for something that was hopefully going to get me through the mundane and complex issues with the change to Logic Pro 9 pronto. This book is almost like doing a full course at a training facility for the program. The best part is that it is self paced, you can do it at your leisure or an afternoon. If you follow along with each chapter as it comes, you quickly gain proficiency in the use of the program. The lessons are structured very well with each new component leaning on the information learned in the last. The examples and tutorials flow logically and help to build an understand in the use and function of the tools within Logic Pro 9. They are presented with numerous screen shots and colour pictures, Great for beginner's and old hands. This book is now my main reference for all things Logic Pro 9. For more advanced uses and techniques I also got a hold of Apple Pro Training Series: Logic Pro 9 Advanced Music Production Which takes you deeper into production and mixing utilities of Logic pro. As I said in the title... this should have been the manual Apple produced and included it with the purchase of the Logic 9 program.

After migrating from Windows to Mac, from Sonar to Logic Pro 9, the book of David has kept my pace of studio work. I found the Logic Manual too general, and my small music business was stuck. I ordered the book and arrived in 2 days! From the cover to the format of every page, the book is clear, concise, and explains every area to detail. Being a former Sonar-Windows user, migrating to Mac-Logic pro 9, I needed extra help to keep working in my projects. I find Logic superior to Sonar, of course, but not that logical. At least no for a former windows user. David's book is something new for me, concerning the clarity. I have been around for many years, and read manuals for Korgs, Ensonics, Emus, Yamahas, etc., and the problem always was the manuals. Basically you were left to your intuition, in times where the internet was not as fast and effective as today. My business needs an steady production of music, and the book is doing it. Any problem and go the index, the page, and find a solution. That`s the practical every day approach. But also there are many chapters that open many doors in more complex areas... Features that I never imagine existed in a music program. If you are a composer of songwriter and want to understand Logic Pro to the fullest, you have to get this book, otherwise you will waste your time and missed many features that will enhance your music projects.
