  • Perfect For Logic & Final Cut Users
If you're a serious music producer who uses Logic Pro, this is the computer to get. If you master & mix your songs all in one project file (like me), you won't have to worry about buffer errors. (Maybe occasionally, but it's rare.) I'm talking about 60-70+ tracks, with 3-6 plugins on each track, and a high CPU EQ & limiter on the master bus (i.e., Ozone Izotope & Softube plugins). Most laptops would crash if you were to put that kind of CPU strain on them. But not the iMac Pro. I'm also an occasional Final Cut user, and it works pretty damn snappy. I also dabble with Photoshop & Lightroom with no problems. The 5K display is a beast for video & photo editing. I could actually run Logic, Final Cut & Photoshop at the same time without issue. That said, if you're a creative type who doesn't exclusively use Mac software, then this computer might not be for you. The Logic & Final Cut software were designed to work more efficiently with multi-core Macs. So using non-Apple software, like Ableton or Adobe Premiere (etc.), negates the advantage. But I'm sure it'd still work great. Obviously, you can get away with running Logic or Final Cut on a cheaper/slower iMac or MacBook Pro. I did for years & know many others who do. But if you're a professional or semi-professional music producer or video editor, the iMac Pro is highly recommended. Of course, it's not cheap. But it should last you 10 years. And it will save you the frustration of buffer errors & slow rendering times. (My last MacBook Pro lasted me 6+ years, and I beat it to shit. So I imagine this desktop that is sitting in my studio should last much longer.). For reference, I have the 8-core / 32 GB Ram / 1 TB hard drive version. I got it refurbished on Amazon for $3,800, and it works like new. I purchased it December 2018. So I've been using it for well over a year now. ... show more

  • It’s going back!
I must have gotten a bad one because it does quirky things on its own like changes settings, wears stupid stuff etc. Don’t get me started on the headphone input! got this to edit video and it’s glitchy and Boggs down. I’m very disappointed because I payed a lot of money for what I thought was going to be the ultimate Mac for me but in reality is not any better than my MacBook Pro. So disappointed. ... show more

  • Great workstation. Don't believe the earlier negative "reviews"...
I bought this iMac on Easter Day when Apple's Amazon Store was matching Best Buy's 1-day sale price of $3999 (add in my Prime Store Card's 5% "rebate" plus 2-day shipping) the price was literally a steal for me because I wanted to buy one for my home office. It's fast, a really nice display, and I really like the dark grey finish as it's easier to "look at" than the silver-bezeled iMac it replaced. I've matched it to a mid-range 32-inch 4k LG display (both are mounted on arms, not the stock stands) and I've got a fairly powerful workstation. My only nitpick is that I'm restricted to High Sierra as the oldest installed version of macOS; I've installed both El Capitan and Sierra in Parallels Desktop v.12 virtual machines so I can run some of my older applications that will not run in HS or future macOS versions. ... show more

  • It's an Apple
I am actually writing this review four years after purchasing this unit and it has been money well spent. I still have it and is my main work force computer.

  • it would have been nice if this ws 4k graphic or 1080 graphic

  • It's da BOMB!
Exactly what you think it is. Fast! Adobe Lightroom CC Classic boots from the desktop to image preview in 4 seconds. I got 24 months free financing from Amazon so at $200 a month, it's affordable. If speed is your need, this is it. Wish I could have afforded the 2 TB SSD but oh well. PS If you're upgrading from a previous iMac, I recommend using Time Machine to transfer the data. I had issues with Migration Assistant. ... show more

  • Fast everything and low power consumption
This is great. Fast everything: boot, disk access, browsing, lightroom. Hooking an external SSD drive works for importing and displaying pictures in Lightroom. Power consumption is so low I can run it all day on my Yeti 1400 Suitcase solar system.

  • WTF Apple?
Apple says NO. I bought Apple's top of the line workstation from Amazon, and now I want to buy a Trackpad 2 to match it and Apple says NO. No explanation. No reasoning. Just No. This is how we support out top-of-the-line workstation line, aimed at business and professionals. You need a replacement part? No. I probably should have returned it. ... show more
