Had to get a replacement radio for my new truck as my Ranger would not fit. The Anytone 5555 is the same size format as a Cobra or Uniden CB - so if you are constrained by the width size as I was then you shouldn't have any problems with the Anytone 5555. It is super easy to convert to 11 meter. There are numerous vids on how to do it and the mod does not take any tech skill. I did the mod in less than 20 minutes. Hooked up radio - works just fine. The menu is a little difficult to figure out but there is really no reason to go into it other than to enable the Weather Alert notifications. I didn't have any issues with SWR - didn't really need calibration. I did a few test calls and was able to reach out 50+ miles with no problems. 10 meter will take a little more work with the noise gate and clarification. Overall I am very happy with this radio and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a 10 meter high power radio that can easily be modded into the 11 meter band. ... show more

After deciding to get back into my ham radio life, I wanted to get a new modern radio to replace my antique 2510 tried and true radio. This radio fit the bill and it far surpasses the functionality of my 2510. The radio works well and I made several contacts to other continents like New Zealand and Austrailia as well as the UK. All running the minimal power setting, about 3 watts (QRP). The sunspot cycle helps. The radio will hit peak power SSB around the specification stated by the radio manufacturer at 60 watts (as per my actual use). This radio is a blast to use. I love this radio it says it puts out 60 watts but my meters say 70 watts, I just made contact with Norway , Italy and Hawaii on 10 meters and made my first 10 meter FM contact with western Mexico and that has been in the past 30 minutes, 10 meters is wide open.

    • Many Features, but Quality Is A Problem

It works and has a lot of features, but it's nowhere near the quality of Japanese/Taiwan/US type of radios. The transmit audio is quite dirty and channel rejection is subpar. PROS -Has a lot of features including noise reduction (although it has problems) -Large LCD screen, easy to see -CTCSS and tone squelching repeater offset functions -Decent power output (But not be the cleanest) CONS - The transmit audio (SSB) at first seems good, but it really is not. Very dirty compared to HF rigs - No backlight on the buttons - Receiver channel rejection is terrible. - Cheap plastic knobs - Cheap microphone - The chassis covers don't fit properly and there is a 1/8 gap on the back of the radio - Modes don't track with the band selections (You have to set mode manually, no memory) I have had this radio and been using for about 3 months, I suppose for the price it's not too bad. But with the transmit audio/driver bias I would be concerned it's not the cleanest radio out there. The noise reduction works surprisingly well, however when you transmit and let off the key, the NR stops working (decay) for a few seconds. My biggest complaint really is how poor the transmit quality is, and I have noticed that driving it to full power makes it worse. ... show more
