I bought this for my catio because I was having issues with ants in the cat food. I tried everything but nothing worked. I saw this and bought 2 thinking I would just give it a try. I love how durable it is. But placing it on the ground is a no no. The water gets so dirty that the ants just float on the debris to the cat food. So I started just using it on our deck. The water stays clean but the cats do drink it while eating LOL. It does work as long as the water stays clean but I was really looking for a feeder I could use on the ground and this just did not work for that purpose. I do use them everyday. My cats love them but they do use it as their water bowl too. I do love how durable it is and its so easy to clean but it did not work for me as a feeder on the ground to keep away ants BUT it does work on the deck. I bought two of these ant-away pet food bowls for feral cats that live in a horse barn. The ants were a real problem and were contaminating the dry food. Since the cat food and water bowls are placed directly on the ground, the only way to get around the ant problem was to create a double bowl arrangement by placing a smaller bowl inside a larger one, then putting water in the larger bowl. This solution was less than perfect because if the smaller bowl touched the side of the larger bowl, the ants would just crawl over. The ant-away pet food bowls are designed with a fixed tough (moat) for the water. I have yet to see if the ants will float across the moat to the food. The bowls are an attractive blue color, very sturdy, and have two inner compartments for food/water. The bowls can be used for wet or dry food. The bowls are easy to clean, and sit flat and securely on a level surface. Best of all, the barn cats IMMEDIATELY investigated and started eating. ... show more

I feed a feral cat, and many times have to leave the bowl out for hours. I had a bad ant problem, until I started using this bowl. It is very easy to use, you just pour a small amount of water around the rim of the bowl and it has kept All the ants away! I can't speak highly enough of this bowl!

We have a neighborhood cat that has basically become our cat. We fed him when it was cold outside last November and have continued this whole year. In the spring however the bowl we had was getting so many ants! So I found this bowl and ordered it and it works! We use it daily and feed him both wet and dry foods and wash it regularly. The trick to keep out ants is to fill the edge with water- but not just a little, it has to be pretty full of water. The cat is happy, we are happy but the ants are not. 🙃 ... show more

    • Works well but inconvenient
Ended up returning these because I found it inconvenient when I wanted to refresh only the water. Because of design I had to dump both dry food and water, in order to put fresh water which was quite a pain
