We quickly found out that this must be used on a flat and hard surface, or else the pads don't register the hits. The bad part about this is that our son can't use this on his bed, but has to use it out on our dining room table. Thankfully the volume doesn't get so loud that we want to make him stop. The sound isn't exactly like the real thing, but it's nice that he doesn't have to use my drum set while he's learning. This actually makes some great sound and is easy to use. Would be a bit better if it came with a wall adapter (only has a USB).

Holy cow is this thing is garbage. I would give it zero stars if I could. It was very easy to set up and play (maybe worth half a star), but playing it was a very frustrating experience. The unit I got was so defective that all the sounds on it were delayed, and you couldn't play anything faster than whole notes on the drum pads or it would skip and cut out and not produce a sound with every hit. Couldn't even play a simple single stroke roll on the snare pad and get a sound to come out with every hit. Pathetic. Didn't seem to be a problem with the cymbal pads, as I was able to play 16th notes on them pretty readily, but the drum pads were just bloody sad. I'm returning it promptly for a refund.

I bought this to have one more form of entertainment (one with a musical/creative theme) for my nieces (6 and 10) during a holiday visit. They both enjoyed slamming and banging around on it and in terms of value and relation to what it cost it really did provide us all with some moments of fun and family bonding. Pros: The kids liked playing and/or beating on it, they even liked the pre-recorded music it came with. It’s portability is good with it being lightweight and able to fold up. It’s best feature is how it’s rechargeable making operation entirely cordless. The price is about as low as you’re going to find that can still offer a form of creative entertainment for your tots to have fun pounding on. It’s plenty loud. Cons (reasons why I returned it): It’s plenty loud but I found myself wanting it go lower on its low volume setting than it did. The clarity of its single speaker is not so great and tends to sound distorted. But it’s real problem is with the pedals which are of such poor quality that they were never really usable at all. Pedals of this type, even those of better quality, as I have had another similar type unit that cost twice as much and that had the same type pedals but of better quality having better action, but would still tend to have issues with distortion and play-ability. I think if the maker is going to offer these pedals that they should make the unit with a connection (industry standard ¼”) that can easily connect a better quality pedal that can be purchased separately as an upgrade option and/or be used with a pedal or base drum pad from a higher quality electronic drum set. Doing this one simple thing would open up such a unit to much greater play-ability. Again, this unit’s main downside was the poor quality of its pedals that were entirely unusable but despite this I’m glad I was still able to use the unit during my family holiday visit even without the pedals and that it still provided the fun I anticipated. However, since the pedal feature offered is supposed to work and be usable but was not, is the main reason why I had to return it.
