  • Worth of upgrade for old Honda Accord 2006
I am very happy with my Honda Accord 2006 radio upgrade with this radio after all. This is one with Android 12, and works pretty smooth; Installation: Good few hrs spent with my 19 year old to install it. Agree with others, not much instructions manual, however, only a few wire/plug (you won’t make mistake, as the connectors only fit on each plug, nothing you need to guess anyway). Few tips: After power up, go to Setting  Car Settings  Device Info a. Make sure it is 9.01.20230325 -- (It comes with 6.xxx for me); b. To upgrade SW, Factory – 000000, then CarTypeSetting – then click upgrade c. If you need to set temperature from C to F, you can do so with this new SW release. Under Factory – 000000, then CAN Related Settings d. The manual said, for wheel key physical learn using under “Factory”; but it is not working for me; e. It is actually under, car setting  General  SWC type – set to Learning Type; then it will show SWC learn option; then I can program my power wheel keys.; few screen captures share here. So far, I tested LG (Android 12), Samsung 22 (Android 13) and Iphone 12 – all works well for map and music. Installed backup camera, working great. Customer support: They are very helpful, [email protected] Little improve for future SW upgrade, the upper right screen always shows temperature of 102 F which is not right. ... show more

  • Mostly great
First and foremost, if this was purely based on customer service, this would be hands done 5 stars. I purchased this head unit in June 2024. Initial impressions were positive, it looks great. The sound quality is not as good as the OEM stereo no matter how much I mess with the equalizer, but it still sounds good. After installing it and setting up the wireless car play on a late night, the following morning I noticed the environmental controls didn’t work. I reached out to customer service, but before their response I realized I didn’t plug in one of the canbus connectors. I reached out again and told them there’s no issue anymore, and they still sent me a backup camera for free for the inconvenience. Fast forward to the end of September as it starts to cool down, I realize I don’t have any heat. Nor to the air vents blow anywhere but straight out of the dash. I contacted customer service again, sent them photos of my wiring and instillation. I replaced my blender door actuator to rule out that issue and still no heat. They sent me a replacement frame that controlled the environmental controls and that solved it. Now I have heat. But now the heat doesn’t turn off on the driver side. Overall I’m pleased with this stereo. MOST things work fine. It’s a little glitchy swiping from screen to screen, but not enough to warrant a complaint, I chose not to get the one with more memory. And for the most part I’m just staying on one screen when I drive so it’s not a big deal. YouTube playback starts off a little rough, but once it’s buffered and starts playing it smooths out within 10-15 seconds. Pros: good price, excellent customer support, looks good, camera, steering wheel controls, USB ports, GPS antenna all function as expected. Cons: environmental controls don’t work as expected, little laggy, cannot use WiFi and wireless CarPlay/Android Auto simultaneously. ... show more

  • Easy enough to do on your own if you research how to disassemble things
Watched several YouTube videos on how to install this unit; none of them matched up exactly with my 2006 Accord (mother passed away and got her car with only 49K miles; trying to bring it up to modern day features). My enthusiasm for DIY faded a good bit when I opened the package and saw all of the wire bundles. I knew there'd be one if the car was a single vs dual comfort zone, but all of the others? Yikes. Turns out you don't need quite a few of them if you are not installing any other input video devices, a backup camera (may do that later on), and the microphone. Called a car stereo chop shop type of place and was quoted 3 hours/$400, that rekindled my DIY focus. Trim around the gearshift - videos show those popping off pretty easily, mine was near impossible on the right rear side/clip area. Wound up using a mini-crowbar out of a car/furniture pry bar kit. You can *almost* get the the large storage box out with the gearshift trim on and lifted up. Almost. Definitely need to do the manual override of the gear shift to move it back out of the way. Not an ashtray - just lift the front right corner until you see the plastic tray, there's a small slot where a flat tip screwdriver can be used to pop that out. May need a flashlight (or really bright overall lighting) to see the first two screws that need to come out (keep those for reinstallation). Pop out the not an ashtray/12V section and unplug the 12V connection. Storage box - have fun with that. May need to use a pry bar on either side (and it really helps removing the two screws underneath...), and manually pull the plastic frame (in front of the gearshift) back a bit to get it out. Bottom screws for the radio, no problemo (don't need those going going forward). Top dashboard center vents - that was a major pain. If you are careful with how you use a pry tool, you won't mash the leather trim on either side (seems pretty stupid to have designed the interior trim that way to begin with). The absolute hardest part was getting a clip in the front center (underneath the emergency flasher button) to release. There is a metal u-shaped clip that eventually sprang out; at least for me, the vent cover went back into place just fine without that metal clip. Top three screws easy enough, and then whammo, another clip obstacle that's located front bottom center. Also a major pain to get that released, but if you mash it with pliers, no problem, you don't need it afterwards. Have fun getting plugs out of the control head. Pro tip: the plugs have a tiny lever on the bottom that once you can get a good enough pinching grip on, they'll release after a little jiggling. Some cables were clipped to interior frame, those clips can all go away. May need to pull the antenna cable out a bit (it pulls straight out of the head, minor difficulty getting that out) so it can reach to the far upper left side of the new unit. Plug in the two USB cables, the power cable (has the blue end) along with the two smaller white plugs, the two green A/C cables (they fit left/right based on pin size, you don't have to keep track of R/L when they're dangling there), and the GPS cord. USB cables can be fished into the glove box, use a slit on the left rear to run them into the glovebox). The GPS connection - affix the sensor to the *middle* or centerline of the vent panel. If you put it off to the side, you may hit some interior framework. Fish/run the cord down and behind the vents and rebundle the excess cable with the same twist ties. It plugs in a bit at first and then has a screw fastener. Do that extra tight so it doesn't come undone, err, down the road. Once everything is connected, turn on your car and check functionality (first time startup took a while, but it's faster on subsequent starts). Also check air controls, FM radio, streaming from your phone, and using the car for a phone call. I did not disconnect the battery; some videos show that, others do not. If all good, start putting everything back. The storage box will have a little gap above it when it is seated. Had to jiggle that several times before it went in okay. Not an ashtray unit pops in (don't forget to reconnect that), the screws for the not an ashtray were a little awkward putting back in (hint: flashlight). Gearshift trim popped right in. The A/C vent cover - push that back all the way so it hooks in, rotate it down, pull forward a tad to get the front clip (without the metal pieces) to snap in, may have to lightly bang it in on the sides. But, it all went back just fine otherwise. The bottom front of the new unit does not fasten to anything and it can pull out a bit. Maybe a light touch of superglue up and underneath to make that more secure, but it fits fine otherwise. Tools needed - flashlight, needle nose pliers (to grab screws), pliers (your mileage may vary, depends if you need to crush clips to get them to release), small mirror (or phone) so can see things up and behind, like clips, Phillips screwdriver, narrow flat tip screwdriver, and a pry bar (the unit came with one; it largely would have been sufficient all by itself were it not for the gearshift trim issue (can get a 5 or 6-piece set same day or overnight delivery here). One major downside is loss of SiriusXM as a direct audio source. But, depending upon your SXM plan, you can use the streaming feature, and that works fine via an app on the new display unit. The iGO GPS starts in France, takes several minutes to initialize. As another check before putting it back together, you can see what your GPS receiver's viewing/reception strength is. Update: the steering wheel controls no longer work. One day all good, next day they're dead. ... show more
