    • Acceptable Entry-Level Small-Scale Mobile Studio
Intro: Sorry/not sorry for the long review. I take them seriously. I bought this for small-scale, entry level, mobile studio shooting. It was mainly bought for the lighting. This product comes from China and shows as such in quality. Much like most ALL product photos, they are NOT true to the product in many ways The good: the product is of acceptable quality for the price I paid. The materials seem sturdy enough to do what they are intended and nothing more. In other words, get in the habit of being gentle with them because I can tell they have the propensity to damage easy. The product is intuitive and first time set up took me about 30 minutes. The power system for the lights is good and doesn't put any undue strain on the connections. The carrying cases holds everything that is in the kit with a little room to spare (I reccomend a power strip and extension cord to complete the kit). The reflectors are a bonus but they are a "combination" setup, not individual reflectors as in the picture. It was packed and shipped very well. The bad: one of the light bulbs came non-operational (not busted, just didn't work). The umbrella tension knob will dent the shaft of the umbrella if it is overtightened, but it is almost necessary to over-tighten it to get it to stay in place (solved by a higher quality and more dense umbrella shaft). The lights are a touch too dim (eliminated by replacing with higher wattage bulbs). The receptacle for the bulbs is thin metal and one came slightly warped making it difficult to install the bulb (solved by increasing quality of receptacle). I forced the bulb in essentially "remolding" the threads. The backdrop clips (not the big clamps) are very flimsy. The pin that connects the clip is inserted through the halves, but not secured on the end (this is solved by bending the end at 90 degrees...could be done during the assembly process). And it should come with 6... not 5. Things to consider: Keep in mind the height of the product; I am 6 foot, so any models close to that height will come close to the top of your backdrop. The backdrop is pretty sheer, even when all three are used at the same time. You may want to invest in slightly brighter bulbs for the umbrellas and softboxes. I suggest adding an extension cord and a powerstrip to assist in routing power. Be ginger with all the parts; they seem like they will damage easy if mistreated even the slightest bit. Disclaimer: Not paid rating/review. 4 star is usually the highest unless I have interaction with the seller, company, or customer service. 3 star rating is an "average" rating for me and a product I would consider buying again or recommended with caution.     • Cheap Crap.

Worst purchase ever! This is not my 1st lighting kit, I brought a lighting kit for $69 and the quality was 100% better than this. The 1st problem, there’s zero instructions on how to put this together. Once you get past that you start too realize just how flimsy this crap is, it’s light as air. It felt like I was holding air literally. Okay, I get past that, then I try to get the I guess third piece (the one that tilts) set up, the tripod is so flimsy it can’t support the weight of the attachment that makes the lights tilt, so it falls over. What the hell did I just pay $132 for. Please don’t say it’s only $132, what did you expect? Like I said I brought a kit that is no longer available here on Amazon for $69 and the quality was far better than this. I thought I was upgrading, only to end up with garbage. To make matters worst, I live in the Bahamas, the lights was shipped to a freight forwarder and I paid to have them shipped to me in the Bahamas. I had to pay Bahamian customs, VAT on crap. Returning will require me to pay my freight forwarder to ship them to the US, plus I can’t get back the monies I paid in taxes, or the cost of shipping this garbage to the Bahamas.     • Great value for what you get
Size: 2 softbox
This is definitely a great buy at $80 compared to what else is being sold right now. It is still made to a price point but it's definitely got what I needed to get up and running. I added some speedlight mounts as I could not adapt the bulb adapters to work for that purpose. That was the biggest let down with the softboxes, I was hoping to use both bulb and speedlight with the softbox itself. It is not possible with these that come in the set. The umbrellas work great with the speedlights. Only thing I would keep in mind is the 45 watt bulbs will not give you powerful light. If you are wanting to control your light for video maybe it'll work but honestly I got this for the stands, backdrop/stand, and was hoping to use with speedlights. All that the bulbs aren't that powerful and will not give you speedlight or strobe light power. It will do a good job of giving you a basic start and overall still don't think I could have pieced together everything for this price. I'll add a Key Light softbox for my photography and honestly will give these bulb soft boxes a go for video work with higher wattage bulbs. Don't expect super bright output but you can get brighter bulbs, that's the only negative I can find really. I would not pay $200 for this but for the $80 I spent it is pretty awesome. ... show more

    • A good set for someone starting out!
This set was purchased primarily for the green screen but the entire kit comes in handy. The lightbulbs have a good white balance are larger than the standard CFL bulb. When you use two softboxes with these bulbs, they light a single individual nicely without leaving shadows. What's also nice is that the frame for the backgrounds is adjustable. The fabric is a bit thin so I recommend using a second layer behind it. One of the most useful things about this kit is that it comes in a basic carrying case so it travels easy. Once you carefully open it up, it can be set up quickly and easily. Its a good value for a starter studio and would work well for a small business that needs to photograph either products for an etsy shop or basic staff headshots. ... show more
