Restaurant Caliber Butter/Cheese Cutter for your home that will save money on groceries.
This is a restaurant-grade tabletop device designed to slice small blocks of cheese or butter quickly and uniformly. It works well, but does require more arm power than most would expect. I was excited to get this Slicer. I managed restaurants in my college years and this type of equipment was used to save on food cost. If used correctly and by portioning my butter, I should cut the amount of butter we use by 1/3 to 1/2. Plus, by using the correct portions on toast and bread, we will cut our butter calories about the same amount. These are my recommendations for cutting butter: 1. The temperature of the butter is the most important. Your stick of butter needs to be chilled (not frozen) and used straight from the refrigerator. 2. Use a stick of butter that fits on the bottom platform. If your butter stick is too big, cut it down. Make sure to remove any and all wrapping. 3. Center your butter stick in the middle of the block, in a horizontal position. Make sure the wires are perfectly aligned with the metal slots. 4. Grab the upper frame’s handle. The handle on this slicer is small, so make sure you are applying equal pressure (on both sides) as you slice through the butter stick. 5. Press firmly and steadily (with equal pressure) until the wires go completely through the butter and into the groves on the bottom. Avoid rocking or forcing the top section downward. 6. Gently remove the stick of butter. I removed the butter from the platform before lifting the wires. The butter stick kept it’s shape and I placed it a butter dish (see picture), If you are going to refrigerate the butter, put it in an air tight container, until needed. 7. Enjoy! This is a great piece of kitchen equipment to have at your home. See the difference between the sliced butter and the uncut butter in the picture #3. It will be easy to explain how to portion the butter to family members. Even two of these slices (and maybe three) would be less than my husband was using before. But, the more slices used, the less you will save in cost. This Cutter takes up very little kitchen or cabinet space. I will use this regularly.

Perfect slices
This arrives needing some assembly of the wire portion and suction feet. That's quick to do, but at this price point, I would have expected it to arrive ready to use. It makes really nice uniform cuts of a thickness that's good for butter pats, or for cheese and crackers. The suction cups keep it stable during use. I did have to use some muscle to get it to cut through a round of smoked gouda, which is a fairly soft cheese. It comes with extra wire and a cleaning brush, but is easy enough to clean without the brush.

Cheese slicer
Who needs a commercial cheese slicer? Apparently I do. It's frustratingly not quite large enough for a standard size 8 oz block of cheese. That's a tad bothersome. But, cut a few ounces off and you're good to go. Now, there's a stop built into it so whatever you're slicing doesn't slide out as it's slicing. Good design idea. You've gotta put some slow and steady pressure when cutting a harder cheese like a block of medium cheddar but it'll get through it. It makes these beautiful, consistently cut slices. And it's not just for cheese. We used it to quickly slice through a can of Spam and it went through that like a champ! Nice, even slices. Very consistent slices with minimum effort in far less time than doing it by hand. It's not terrible to clean. Just drips dry. I can't speak for the dishwasher because I don't own one. It came with an extra wire in case the one included broke. The suction cups help it stay in place while in use. I know it's large. But even with having to slice slowly, you can get through a large amount of cheese in a short period of time. This will certainly be handy during the holidays.
